First ever Moto2 front row for PETRONAS Sprinta Racing with Xavi Vierge

Both Xavi Vierge and Jake Dixon put in outstanding performances in Moto2 qualifying at Misano for the Emilia Romagna GP today. Vierge will start on the front row for the first time since Assen last year, after setting the third fastest time – the first Moto2 front row for PETRONAS Sprinta Racing. Team-mate Dixon will start tomorrow’s race seventh, his best Moto2 qualifying result to date.

It was another tight FP3 session in the Moto2 class, but Vierge’s 1min 36.225secs lap saw him straight through to Q2, as he finished 12th. The Spaniard was at the sharp end of the timing screens throughout the qualifying session, setting the third fastest lap in the final minutes. A crash just after prevented Xavi from defending his place, but his 1min 35.619secs lap was enough to maintain his position on the front row.

Dixon put in an impressive performance during FP3, staying within the top five for the majority of it. He secured a place in Q2 after posting the ninth fastest time: 1min 36.133secs. Jake’s good form continued in qualifying, which saw him stay within the top half of the field for the duration of the 15-minute session. His best lap of 1min 35.814secs will see him start tomorrow’s race from seventh, his best Moto2 qualifying result to date.

The Moto2 riders will be back on track tomorrow at 8.50am local time (2.50pm MYT) for Warm Up, with their 25-lap race due to get underway at 12.20pm local time (6.20pm MYT).

I am so happy to be back on the front row. We have a good rhythm as well, so I am really happy with the great job done today. We know from the last race that we have the pace, but we wanted to improve our qualifying. To achieve a front row start for tomorrow’s race is a really positive thing for us. We are happy with both tyres so now we need to take the time to decide which one will be the best one for us. I’ve been happy with our pace all weekend; it’s a pity I crashed because I think I could have gone even faster. We will try to make a good start tomorrow and be at the front from the start.
