Vierge and Dixon motivated for Misano

Having achieved PETRONAS Sprinta Racing’s best ever Moto2 race results last time out, Xavi Vierge and Jake Dixon will be hoping to maintain this strong form at the San Marino GP this weekend. An added challenge for the pair will be the new track surface at Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli, which neither of them has ridden on.

Although Vierge didn’t have the best starting position on the grid of the Styrian GP, the Spaniard was able to mount an incredible recovery ride. After lining up 19th, Xavi made his way through the pack to cross the line sixth – his second best result of the 2020 season. This weekend Vierge will be aiming to improve his qualifying result to give himself the best chance of another strong result, and score as many championship points as possible.

Team-mate Dixon will be looking to make further progress aboard his Triumph-powered Kalex, having accomplished his best Moto2 finish at the Red Bull Ring – Spielberg. After the two-week break, the Brit is eager to return to racing action and continue the positive developments going into the first of three back-to-back races, the first two of which will be held at San Marino.

The Gran Premio di San Marino e della Riviera di Rimini, which will also feature the return of a limited number of fans, will see the Moto2 pairing take to the track for the first time on Friday at 10.55am local time (4.55pm MYT) for Free Practice 1. The 25-lap race on Sunday will get underway at 12.20pm local time (6.20pm MYT).

Misano is a really difficult track with many changes of direction, slow parts, and fast parts. You have to really focus because in some parts of the track it’s best to ride smooth and in other areas you need to attack the circuit. The most important thing this year is the new asphalt at Misano; we haven’t tested there so we don’t know what it will be like. In the first session we need to be careful to see how it is, how the bike feels there and find the best lines again. Improving our performance in qualifying will be the key to achieving a great result. It’s a really good circuit and I’m really looking forward to the challenge.
