No rest for PETRONAS Sprinta Racing as they head to Austria2020-08-13 12:46Xavi Vierge and Jake Dixon travel straight to Red Bull Ring – Spielberg for second of three back-to-back Moto2 races There will be no relaxing for PETRONAS Sprinta Racing’s Moto2 riders, who head directly into the Grand Prix von Österreich this weekend, just days after round four at Brno. The Red Bull Ring – Spielberg will host two races across two weekends, making it three consecutive events for the team in August. Vierge maintained his 100% points streak in 2020 at the CzechGP last weekend, where the results unfortunately didn’t reflect his true potential. After the heat of Jerez and the poor track surface of Brno, the Spaniard is hoping that the conditions are more favourable at the 4.3km long Austrian circuit. Xavi has amended his riding style and has a few weapons in the arsenal to help make the progress required to challenge for the top positions. He goes into the fifth round of the season 11th in the championship standings with 25 points, the same amount as the rider ahead in tenth. Team-mate Dixon will be hoping for better fortunes this weekend, after being plagued by bad luck in the previous three events. An unforeseeable mechanical issue with his Triumph-powered Kalex bike meant that the Brit’s race came to an early end last time out. Despite the recent results, Jake has seen progress made with the bike and knows that he can consistently lap at a strong pace. This weekend his aim will be to collect as many championship points as possible and propel himself up the standings, from the 22nd place that he currently finds himself in. The first session of the weekend for Vierge and Dixon will see them take to the track at 10.55am local time (4.55pm MYT) for FP1. The 25-lap Moto2 race will see lights go out at 12.20pm local time (6.20pm MYT) on Sunday. Xavi Vierge We started the season really strong in Qatar but then, like a lot of other riders, we have struggled with the front tyre from Jerez onwards. We have tried a lot of things and have been making progress, but the track conditions hurt us at Brno. I am also changing my riding style going into the Austria GP to try to make further improvements. The team has been really good because they are so supportive even in difficult times and I know together we can make the progress we need to. It’s great that we have two more races straight away because we can be back on the bike as quickly as possible to put in place what we have learned. I’m looking forward to this weekend, as Austria is a track that I like and I think we can do well there. Source: SIC Racing Team Click here to visit our forums to discuss this story |
