PETRONAS Sprinta Racing hoping for Moto3 success at Austria two years running2020-08-13 12:46This weekend will see McPhee and KIP take on the second of three back-to-back Moto3 races, where weather conditions are forecast to be unpredictable. In contrast to the recent extreme heat, the Austrian double-header could throw up a fresh set of challenges as the duo hope to build upon a pair of strong recovery rides at Brno. McPhee goes into the Grand Prix von Österreich with the aim of repeating his success from last year. At the 2019 event, the Scot started the race from pole position and ended it on the third step of the podium. Confident of being able to put in another strong performance, John will be looking to fight for the win and move himself further up the championship standings – his 51 points currently place him third, only one point shy of second. After fracturing the same finger that he broke last year, team-mate KIP rode through the pain to complete the race at Brno last weekend. Despite it being only a few days until the Malaysian is riding again, he is resting his hand in order to be in the best physical condition on race day. The track layout may not be sympathetic to KIP’s injury, but he is confident of being able to make further progress towards a point-scoring finish aboard his Honda NSF250RW. Free Practice will get underway for the Moto3 duo at 9am local time (3pm MYT) on Friday, with Sunday’s 23-lap race due to start at 11am local time (5pm MYT). John McPhee I’m really looking forward to going to Austria; it’s a track that’s always been very good to me in the past, so I feel that we can be really strong there. It’s exciting to go back, especially having been on the podium there last year. There’s a really nice atmosphere at the Red Bull Ring and it’s quite unique with the big hill in the approach to Turn 1 and Turn 3. It’s really good for Moto3 because there are so many hard braking zones, so we can be sure it’s going to be an interesting race. Plus it’s nice knowing that we’ll be riding again in just a couple of days. I think it’s going to be a good one. Source: SIC Racing Team Click here to visit our forums to discuss this story |
