PETRONAS Sprinta Racing Moto2 riders feel the heat2020-07-17 20:00PETRONAS Sprinta Racing Moto2 riders Xavi Vierge and Jake Dixon’s second grand prix of the 2020 season commenced today, with both riders experiencing difficulties in the Spanish heat. The pair finished 19th and 23rd respectively in the combined times from the two free practice sessions. Xavi, who had enjoyed a successful one-day test this week in the build up to the Gran Premio de España, worked through a series of setting changes throughout the morning’s session with the goal of optimising set up ahead of tomorrow’s qualifying session. Unfortunately this left the Spaniard 19th on the time sheets with a best lap time of 1min 42.212secs. Due to the high track temperatures, he was unable to better this time in the second practice session and finished 14th with a 1min 43.030secs lap. His morning time placed him 19th in the combined standings. It was also a challenging day for team-mate Dixon, who was also unable to make as much progress as expected aboard his Triumph-powered Moto2 machine. The Brit was unable to progress past 23rd place in either of the two practice sessions and will be focused on improving set up in tomorrow morning’s final practice session before qualifying commences. His morning time of 1min 42.568secs saw him finish the day 23rd across the two sessions, as the afternoon saw a best time of 1min 43.389secs from him. The final practice session for PETRONAS Sprinta Racing’s Moto2 riders will see the pair take to the circuit at 10.55am local time (4.55pm MYT) with the first qualifying session commencing at 3.10pm local time (9.10pm MYT). Xavi Vierge 19th (1'42.212) We struggled more today than we expected. I tried some things with the bike this morning that I didn’t like in the end. It was difficult to understand what was working better in my set-up because of the track conditions, so now we have to focus on preparing a good bike for tomorrow. The race pace was good, but we need to fine-tune some things to get a better one-lap pace for qualifying. I think we just need a little bit more stability with the bike and then I can improve my rhythm. We will see what happens tomorrow.
