Pawi wraps up Jerez test

Khairul Idham Pawi today completed the first official Moto2 test of the 2019 preseason, wrapping up the third and final day at the Jerez – Angel Nieto Circuit. The Malaysian rider has worked extensively with his crew, completing 165 laps of the Spanish track, finishing up in 29th position overall with a best lap of 1'42.729, which he set yesterday.

The PETRONAS Sprinta Racing rider spent the final day on track focusing on his race pace and working to find the most balanced possible set-up for his bike. His best lap of today came during the second session, when he stopped the clock at 1'42.909.

The next appointment for Khairul Idham Pawi on track with his Moto2 machine will be at next week's Qatar test. Action gets underway on Friday at the Losail International Circuit, where the final preparations will be made for a new season that kicks off at the same track on March 10th.

“It has been difficult for Khairul Idham Pawi because he hadn't ridden at Jerez yet this year, unlike a lot of the other riders, so he was already a couple of days behind. We have tried various things and tried to adjust his way of working and his riding style to make the lap times come more easily. We have to keep working in the same way in Qatar and everything will come. We have faith in Pawi, in the team and in the bike, so we just need to be patient and keep working hard.”

"Today we were unable to improve on our best single lap from yesterday so we have to keep working on that in Qatar. On the other hand we did manage to improve our race pace, so the initial focus at the Losail International Circuit will be on setting a flying lap. Today we worked on improving the balance of the bike. At the end of the day we swapped the rear wheel but I didn't have good grip so I couldn't hold my line and improve the lap time. We have three more days in Qatar to keep progressing."
