Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki’s Forkner Scores Top 10 Finish at Rain-Soaked Ironman

Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki’s Austin Forkner and Joey Savatgy concluded the 2018 Pro Motocross season having to battle the elements at Ironman Raceway, coming away with a sixth and 12th, respectively. Forkner snagged his eighth top-10 overall finish with a 7-5, while Savatgy bounced back in Moto 2 to score inside the top 10 and finished the day with a 26-8.

With the riders only receiving one practice to become familiar with the track, the circuit continued to change with the conditions so it was going to be all about being consistent and staying on two wheels. Forkner got out to a 10th-place start in Moto 1 and rode steady to gain some positions to finish seventh. In Moto 2, he got a better start and was sixth for much of the race before passing into fifth on the final lap to score sixth overall.

“The conditions were pretty insane and after you made it through the first turn safely, it was all about keeping it on two wheels and finding a groove,” said Forkner. “We may not have been on the podium today, but for the conditions and the way this season has gone, we’ll take it. It makes me want it that much more next season.”



Savatgy’s day started with 40th gate pick, but that wasn’t going to stop him from coming around the first lap in a solid spot in 11th. He had made his way inside the top 10 to eighth when he fell and dropped back outside the top 15, eventually ending the moto back in 26th. Ready to bounce back, Savatgy got out to a good start in Moto 2 in 10th. He minimized mistakes and was able to advance and finish eighth for 12th overall on the day.

“Once I went down in Moto 1, that was pretty much it for that moto so I tried to focus on getting a good finish in Moto 2,” said Savatgy. “The track was a little bit better in that moto and I was able to push forward but tried to minimize mistakes. It’s not the way we wanted to end the season, but there are some bright moments that I can look back on this season.”
