The Movistar Yamaha MotoGP Team started the first session of the Grand Prix of The Americas at the Circuit of The Americas (COTA) full of determination.

Maverick Viñales found a good pace from the beginning of this morning‘s FP1 session. He needed minimal tweaking to the setting of his YZR-M1 to be the only rider to drop under the 2‘05s mark, setting a fastest time of 2‘04.923s for first place, 0.577s ahead of his closest rival.

Valentino Rossi needed a bit more time to feel at ease on his bike, but made big strides towards the end of the morning session. He took eighth place with a best time of 2'06.292s, 1.369s from the front.

It's my first time here at COTA with the Yamaha M1 and I felt great, the bike is working so good. We still have to work on the electronics but we are happy with the set-up. The bike is working at 100%. Of course we still have to work hard, especially in preparation for the last laps of the race, but I'm happy and confident. I'm sure that we can do a really good weekend.

COTA is always a difficult track for us, but it‘s also very interesting. The first session this morning did not go very well but it was not bad either. We still have to work a bit and find the right balance of the bike. We need to improve in the corner entry and make the tyres work better. This afternoon we‘ll try to make another step forward.
