RCH/Yoshimura/Suzuki Factory Racing Riding a Trio of Success into Toronto

2017-03-05 09:31
As the old cliché goes, good things come in threes. With that in mind, RCH/Yoshimura/Suzuki Factory Racing looks to ride a trifecta of success when Monster Energy Supercross, an FIM World Championship, rolls into Toronto and eclipses the halfway point of the 2017 championship.

RCH co-owner Ricky Carmichael took top honors when the World Supercross GP series visited Toronto for the first time in 2004. Justin Bogle, rider of RCH’s No. 19 Suzuki RM-Z450 notched the 250SX Class win at the Rogers Centre in 2014 and former RCH pilot Ken Roczen collected the 450 win last March.

With an abundance of positive energy surrounding the RCH Camp, good things are expected for the Chino, Calif., team tomorrow night in Round 9.

“There’s good vibes in Toronto for us this weekend,” commented Bogle. “It’s very important going into a race to be confident and happy about your surroundings. That’s what I have going into this one. Even if I haven’t done as well there during some other races besides the race I won, it’s somewhere that I enjoy going. I’m a big fan of Toronto. I got my first win there. It’s a little different than normal. I love Toronto in general. My favorite rapper is from Toronto so I’ll be listening to Drake this weekend. It’s always a good time.”

It’s been a long road back to Canada for Bogle’s RCH teammate Broc Tickle, who hasn’t competed at the Rogers Centre since 2014, where he suffered a catastrophic back injury, ultimately derailing his Supercross and Pro Motocross campaigns for the remainder of the year.

“It was obviously really bad,” explained Tickle who comes into Toronto 10th in points. “It happened in the second lap of practice. I was behind (James) Stewart, getting the track dialed in, went double, triple on this simple double-triple and hit a kicker and went over the bars and that was it. It’s not hard for me to talk about it now but back then I was pretty broken up about it. That year, prior to my crash, I was riding really well and I got to Toronto feeling more confident than ever. That was the hardest thing to swallow.”

Still, as the site of his first 250SX Class podium where he finished third in 2009, Toronto holds a special place for the rider of the No. 20 Suzuki RM-Z450. In two 450SX Class starts at the home of the Toronto Blue Jays, the Lake Elsinore, Calif., resident finished eighth twice. Tickle was recovering from a wrist injury when the series visited the Queen City last March, forcing him to watch former RCH teammate Ken Roczen take the checkered flag from the dugout.

“I got my first podium, actually I got two podiums but one was back in 2006 when they called that the World Supercross GP race,” said Tickle. “That was my first Supercross and I finished third. I’m looking forward to seeing what we can make happen. One of these races it’s going to click for me and it will be downhill from there. I need to make it happen and keep moving forward.”

Last weekend in Atlanta, both RCH riders had solid practice sessions and qualified for the main event straight out of their heat races. Unfortunately, Tickle got a bad jump out of the starting gate and was forced to play catch up the rest of the night, leaving him 14th in the final rundown.

Bogle spent much of the first half of last week’s feature racing at the front of the field but was collected in an incident when another rider crossed a set of ruts and made contact with the No. 19 machine, leaving him nowhere to go and a 17th-place finish to boot.

“It is what it is,” added Bogle. “I let him know I was unhappy with it and that I wasn’t going to be nice anymore. If I’m in that same situation again, I’ll definitely do what I have to do. I’m getting a little tired of being pushed around. I’m not really one to play with. It’s unfortunate for those guys because I can holeshot every week and even if I’m having an off night they’re going to have to deal with me. Like I said, it is what it is. I’m definitely unhappy with it.”

Meanwhile, Bogle continues to move ahead and still sees positives in the Atlanta outcome, despite the end result.

“It was progress. All in all the day was a good step forward and it was better. That said, I’m looking for results that show what I’m capable of. There’s more in the tank, I just haven’t unlocked it yet but we’re working at it.”

Monster Energy Supercross from the Rogers Centre will be televised on a tape-delayed basis on Fox Sports 1 Saturday, March 4 beginning at 10 p.m. Eastern Standard Time, 7 p.m. Pacific.
