Van Andel Arena in Grand Rapids, Michigan played host to Round 2 of the 2017 AMSOIL Arenacross Championship as the Team Babbitt’s/Monster Energy®/AMSOIL Kawasaki presented by AP Designs focused on building momentum for the season. Reigning champion Gavin Faith started the night fast, taking top honors in the Rocky Mountain ATV/MC Head 2 Head Challenge. At the gate drop for Main Event 1 Jacob Hayes earned the holeshot with Faith running near the front and Travis Sewell inside the top ten. In the second turn, Faith was involved in an incident and went down, rejoining the action in 15th. At the front of the pack, Hayes opened up a four second gap on the field until a crash on Lap 11 forced him to retire from competition for the remainder of the event. Faith worked his way forward until the checkers, earning eighth place with Sewell retiring from competition on Lap 9.

In the second main Faith earned the holeshot but would quickly fall to second. On Lap 2 Sewell would retire from competition and two laps later Faith went down, remounting in 12th. Faith continued to battle throughout the main eventually finishing 11th. Faith leaves Van Andel Arena with a 9th overall (8-11), Sewell credited with 15th (16-15) and Hayes 16th (15-16).

“The day began really strong,” said Faith. “I started the night with a Head 2 Head win and felt good for the mains. In the first main I started well, but ended up going down pretty early and had to work hard to salvage some points. Unfortunately the second main was a similar story. We’ll go back home and put in the work like we always do, I’ll be back up front in no time.”
