NORRODIN TAKES TWENTY THIRD; KORNFEIL FALLS VICTIM TO EARLY EXIT AT ARAGON2016-09-25 08:37DRIVE M7 SIC Racing Team rider Jakub Kornfeil saw a premature end to the Spanish Grand Prix, after becoming embroiled in a racing incident on lap one and thrown from his #84 machine. Having made an impressive start off the line, the early exit was a disappointing end for Kornfeil who was confident of a strong point scoring finish. Adam Norrodin encountered a difficult start to today’s Moto3 race but eager to build on his results, worked hard to regain his rhythm and close down the gap to the top twenty. After starting from an elevated 26th place on the grid, the rookie concluded his battle with fellow Malaysian Pawi, to cross the line in 23rd place. Johan Stigefelt – Team Manager “We started the race quite far back on the grid with both Jakub and Adam, so we knew it wasn’t going to be easy. The target was for both riders to make a strong start and be particularly aggressive for the first two laps. Jakub made a great start and passed many riders but then in turn five on the first lap he got hit from behind by another rider and had a big crash. He is lucky not to have hurt himself, so I’m pleased for this! His race ended very quickly which is a real shame because I really think we could have had a good result with him today. He had the pace to be around the top ten. With Adam he didn’t get a good start and it then took him quite a while to make progress again. He worked his way back up to P23 and was fighting with Pawi for most of the race. He passed him with two laps to go but sadly he couldn’t pull away and Pawi repassed him on the back straight on the final lap. Nevertheless Adam has learned a lot this weekend and I’m happy that he has had another crash-free weekend, which will definitely improve his confidence going forward into the next three races.” #84 Jakub Kornfeil - DNF “I made a really good start and passed many riders to go behind Pawi. Then in corner number five in the first lap, there was a tricky situation with Pawi and Herrera; he cut through on the inside line and I was on her outside line; Pawi hit her bike and then when she was crashing she hit my rear wheel, which catapulted my bike up in the air and threw me quite far. I hit the ground quite hard; I tried to walk back but it was impossible. I have some pain in my arm and ankle but luckily nothing is broken, so I’m very happy for this. It is a pity because the start was good and I feel the potential of the race was high and I could have finished easily in the points, but this is racing and this can happen. Now we have a two week break, so for sure I will be fully fit and raring to ride again in Japan.” #7 Adam Norrodin - P23 “I didn’t make a good start today and it took me too long to find my rhythm. I struggled a lot from the start of the race and lost quite a bit of time in the fast corners. I could see the group ahead start to pull away so I tried to catch them again in the braking points. The race today was tough and I know that I need to be stronger next time. When we go to Japan I have to focus more on my mentality and really work on pushing harder, quicker. Over the next couple of weeks I must train hard to prepare well for these next three back-to-back races.” Source: SIC Racing Team Click here to visit our forums to discuss this story |
