DRIVE M7 SIC RACING TEAM LOOKING FOR IMPROVEMENT AFTER DAY ONE AT SACHSENRING

As the German Grand Prix officially got underway at the picturesque Sachsenring Circuit, the DRIVE M7 SIC Racing Team concluded day one with mixed emotions.
With cloudy skies and scattered showers, the Moto3 field struggled to get up to speed in cold conditions in this morning’s opening practice.

Riding at the circuit for the very first time, rookie Adam Norrodin focussed his attentions on getting dialled in around the 3.7 km track. Despite being renowned for its technical complexity and varied elevation changes, Norrodin remained calm and concentrated, holding onto a respectable top twenty position for the majority of FP1.
Continuing to progress in the second of the days sessions, the young Malay looked to be adjusting well to Sachsenring’s layout, until an unfortunate collision with fellow rider Fenati prematurely ended his practice.

Experiencing a difficult start to his weekend, teammate Jakub Kornfeil struggled to find his rhythm on board the Honda NSF250 RW as he battled to find a good feeling. The Czech rider will be looking for answers with his crew in order to significantly improve his performance ahead of tomorrow’s qualifying session.

“In FP1 this morning it was very difficult; the time was not there, even though I was trying to push as much as I could. I hoped that we would be able to resolve the issue for the afternoon’s session but unfortunately we didn’t. The direction we went was not correct and we ended up fighting with the bike so much. During FP2 we tried various settings, which didn’t work at all in the beginning, even with the good tyres. In the end we made some small improvements but I was only able to make three laps before it started to rain and during this time there was a lot of vibration in the front wheel, so it was very difficult to ride. I tried to push so much because I really enjoy riding here but in this moment we don’t have a good setting. Fifteenth position is not a disaster and overall our time is not too bad but if we can find the answers to our issues today, we can do so much better! Now we have to study the data very hard and find the solution so that we can be strong tomorrow and make a big improvement for qualifying.”

“First practice went well for us; even though it’s a new track for me, I feel I learned it quite quickly. I was able to find a good rhythm and I felt much more comfortable on the bike. I feel fresh in the mind and positive right now. The lap time was not too far off this morning and I was able to further improve again this afternoon. I wanted to make a bigger step in FP2 so that we could be more prepared for qualifying tomorrow. At the beginning of the second session I felt quite on the limit but I’m happy I was still able to better my time. After a couple of small changes from this morning the bike was working even better, so in the end we put in a soft tyre to make a good lap time. Unfortunately during my fast lap Fenati hit me in turn three. With only six minutes of the session remaining, that was the end of my practice. We missed our opportunity to make a strong lap time today because of this but still I feel good about tomorrow. Now I just need to stay calm and focussed to push again and make the step in qualifying.”
