Savatgy Wins Thunder Valley and Leaves with Points Lead While Tomac Podiums

The Monster Energy® Kawasaki team of Eli Tomac and Josh Grant arrived in Lakewood, Colorado this weekend for Round 3 of the 2016 Lucas Oil Pro Motocross series. Colorado native, Tomac started the day fastest in qualifying, looking poised and ready to race for the podium. At the start of Moto 1 Grant rounded the first turn in eighth while Tomac came around in 21st. At the halfway mark Grant raced his KX™450F to an impressive third place with Tomac moving up into the eighth place position. With three laps to go Grant and Tomac were split by only one rider, sitting in fourth and sixth respectively. On the next lap Tomac made the pass for fifth where he would remain until the checkers with teammate Grant finishing Moto 1 in an impressive fourth.

Grant launched out of the gate with an impressive start in Moto 2, rounding in the first turn in fourth while Tomac went off track at the end of Lap 1 and rejoined the field in 19th. After ten minutes of racing Tomac had already diced his way into seventh. Just after the halfway mark Grant and Tomac found each other on the racetrack and they battled for third, with Tomac taking the advantage and sighting in on second. Only a few minutes later Tomac pulled the trigger and made the pass for second where he would remain until the checkers. Tomac’s performance of 5-2 earned him third overall while Grant finished sixth overall (4-5).


“Today didn’t quite go as planned,” said Tomac. “We started the day on top with the fastest time in qualifying but when it came time to race our starts weren’t where we want them to be. I managed to find smooth lines and stay on two wheels all day to finish on the podium for the third straight week, so I’ll take that and move to the next round focused on the main goal of the top step of the podium.”

“The weekend was really good,” said Grant. “I always like coming to Colorado, it’s one of my favorite places. The track, especially the ruts, were really gnarly this weekend and it made for some interesting racing. I’m happy with how I’ve been riding the last couple weeks and this weekend was more of the same. I made a few minor mistakes that held me back a bit but overall I’m really happy and I’m looking forward to the next one.”
