Barber Shaved Beaubier’s Points Lead As Monster Energy/Graves/Yamaha Teammate Hayes Wins Superbike Race 1 At Barber Motorsports Park2015-06-14 17:47After earning the pole in Saturday’s Superpole Qualifying at Barber Motorsports Park, Monster Energy/Graves/Yamaha rider Cameron Beaubier got the holeshot in Sunday’s Superbike Race 1 and started to build a sizable lead. While working lap 8, the tide turned dramatically, however, as Cameron had a tipover going into the “Museum Turn†on the 2.38-mile, 17-turn Alabama road course. The incident prevented Cameron’s teammate Josh Hayes, who was in second place, from taking the lead because he was maneuvering to avoid Cameron and his sliding Yamaha YZF-R1. Still in second, the four-time and defending Superbike Champion went to work and soon took over the lead to win his fourth race of the 2015 season and his 75th AMA professional road racing victory. “After avoiding Cam and his bike when he went down, I settled back into a rhythm,†Josh said. “I was struggling to decide just how the race was going to play out. An opportunity came up, and I was able to jump on it, make my move to the front, and get the win.†With Cameron’s DNF and Josh’s victory, the Monster Energy/Graves/Yamaha teammates are still first and second in the Superbike points standings, but Josh made up a lot of ground and is now just one point behind Cameron at the halfway point of the 2015 MotoAmerica season. Jake Gagne, riding the #32 RoadRace Factory/Yamaha R1, finished third overall and first in Superstock 1000. TOBC racing’s Taylor Knapp was second in Superstock 1000 and Tyler O’Hara was third to complete the all-Yamaha-R1 Superstock 1000 podium. MotoAmerica Superbike Race 2 starts at 4:00 PM CST.
