Jacob Hayes Inches Closer to the Amsoil Arenacross Championship by Dominating Tacoma2015-04-23 15:38As the Amsoil Arenacross Race to the Championship is winding down, the championship points chase tightened up at the Tacoma Dome in Washington. Team Babbitt’s Monster Energy/ Amsoil Kawasaki’s Jacob Hayes rebounded from an off week in Spokane to dominate both main events and move into second overall in the championship. Teammate Matt Goerke was fastest in timed qualifying and chased Hayes in both main events to finish second. Chris Blose won his heat race and was in podium position before crashing after the wall feature. Going into the penultimate round of the Race to the Championship this Saturday in Fresno, California, Hayes sits eight points behind the leader with Goerke in third place only 11 points back and Blose in fourth place just 15 points away from the championship lead. Hayes has had his share of ups and downs this Arenacross season and used that frustration to bring the championship within reach. In the first main event Hayes grabbed the holeshot from the second from the outside gate and never looked back. Goerke and Blose were right on his heels for a KX™250F sweep until Blose ran into problems. Goerke kept Hayes insight for the full 15 laps but finished a close second. For the second main event Hayes drew the 8-man inversion which put him on the very outside gate, but like he did in the first main, he ripped the holeshot from the outside and dominated yet again. Goerke worked his way forward to finish second and Blose held on for eighth. “I couldn’t be more pumped after tonight,” said Hayes. “The track really suited my style and I really let it hang out. This is the first time I’ve gone 1-1 for the win and it feels great. The championship is at my fingertips and I want it so bad.” Amsoil Arenacross heads to Save Mart Center in Fresno, California this Saturday where Team Babbitt’s will look to close the gap in the championship standings.
