Home Field Advantage a Plus for Tickle, RCH in Detroit2015-03-19 10:13Detroit, or the Motor City as it’s so often affectionately referred to, is home of the Big Three. Dodge, Ford and General Motors have all dominated the cityscape for as long as most can remember. But once a year, Detroit trades its automotive pedigree for the throaty sounds of single cylinder, four stroke engines when Monster Energy Supercross, an FIM World Championship, rides into Ford Field. For Broc Tickle and RCH Soaring Eagle/Jimmy Johns/Suzuki Factory Racing, the Detroit Supercross is a three-part homecoming. Tickle, 25, hails from nearby Holly, Mich., while RCH primary sponsor Soaring Eagle Casino and Resort is situated just a couple hours north of Ford Field, in Mt. Pleasant. With Dodge headquarters located in suburban Detroit in Auburn Hills, it’s no wonder why a good night at the Detroit Supercross is top of mind. “Detroit is an important weekend for us,” commented Tickle, who finished sixth last year in his lone 450SX start at Ford Field. “If there’s one place where we should have the home field advantage, Ford Field is it. It’s sort of a hometown trifecta for me. I live just outside of Detroit, in Holly, so I’ll have a lot of friends and family at the race. Obviously, I want to do well in front of all of them. On top of that, Dodge has its headquarters in Auburn Hills and Soaring Eagle is in Michigan, too. There’s always a little extra incentive to do well in Detroit. I finished sixth last year but I need to be better this time. Hopefully, this is the week I can break through and finish on the podium.” Prior to this weekend’s race, the RCH contingent enjoyed some down time at Soaring Eagle where Tickle, teammate Ken Roczen and RCH co-owners Ricky Carmichael and Carey Hart kept their hands close to the vest during the RCH Semi-Invitational Celebrity Poker Tournament Tuesday night. On Wednesday, all four signed autographs and met children from the Saginaw Chippewa Tribal Nation before the Casino cut the ribbon for the grand opening of the RCH Café that night. “The Detroit Supercross provides Soaring Eagle with a fantastic opportunity to not only showcase our property, but to promote the partnership with RCH,” explained Raul Venegas, Director of Marketing and Entertainment, Soaring Eagle Casino and Resort. “We had a lot of fun with the RCH Celebrity Poker Tournament on Tuesday night. That was a great chance for us to provide our Player’s Club members with some exclusive access to Carey, Ricky, Ken and Broc. It was also great to see those guys interacting with the kids from the Tribe and making new friends. The grand opening of the RCH Café was a huge success! This is what it’s all about. We have a great partnership with RCH and we’re excited about growing the relationship. There’s going to be a big group from Soaring Eagle at the race Saturday night and we’ll all be cheering for Broc.” Tickle will miss Roczen’s company on the track for the third week in a row while the German rider continues to recover from an ankle injury. Roczen is scheduled to return to the seat of his Suzuki RM-Z450 next month in Houston. “I’m super bummed that I’m not racing this weekend in Detroit,” said Roczen. “I’m still happy that I was able to spend some time at Soaring Eagle with the fans and obviously our sponsor. But for me, it’s important to get healthy and be 100 percent. When I come back in Houston, I want to be up front and the only way to do that is if I’m 100 percent. Safety first and health first. That’s what I’m going to do. I’ll be putting in some good work over the next three weeks so I can come back strong.” Monster Energy Supercross, an FIM World Championship, returns to Detroit this weekend when the series visits Ford Field for Round 12 of the 2015 Championship. The event will mark the fifth time Supercross will compete at Ford Field. The Pontiac Silverdome played host to the Premier Division 46 times before the traditional venue was temporarily shuttered in 2006.
