Gagne Wins As Yamaha R6 Riders Sweep Top Five In Daytona SportBike Race 2 At New Jersey Motorsports Park

The sun came out at New Jersey Motorsports Park, and Yamaha shone brightly in Sunday’s final AMA Pro GoPro Daytona SportBike race of the 2014 season as Yamaha YZF-R6 riders not only swept the podium, but also the top five.

On the top step of the podium was RoadRace Factory/Yamaha’s Jake Gagne, who won Sunday’s race just one day after clinching the 2014 DSB Championship. Finishing 2nd on Sunday was Yamaha Extended Service/Monster Energy/Graves/Yamaha rider Garrett Gerloff. And rounding out the rostrum for Sunday was Dane Westby of Yamalube/Westby Racing, who was the winner of Saturday’s DSB Race 1 in New Jersey and finished the DSB season in 3rd place in the standings.

MotoSport.com/Meen Yamaha’s Jake Lewis rode a strong race on Sunday to finish 4th, and he also wrapped up 2nd place in the 2014 DSB Championship. Garrett’s Y.E.S./Monster Energy/Graves/Yamaha teammate JD Beach finished 5th in the race and also 5th in the season points standings.

“Ending the season with a win is amazing,” Jake Gagne said. “Dane and Garrett and those guys were really haulin’, and I could see on my pitboard that I needed to turn it up a little bit. So that’s what I did, and I was able to build up a little bit of lead. I’m glad it worked out for me and my team, not only today, but all season long.”

“It’s good to be on the podium,” commented Garrett. “That was a fun race, to be in that group with Dane. I was glad to get at the front of those guys and finish second. The year didn’t go quite the way I’d hoped, but I have to thank my Y.E.S./Monster Energy/Graves/Yamaha team for giving me an awesome R6 all season long.”

Dane said, “It was a really fun race riding around with these guys. What a scrap at the end there, too. I feel good about the season we had, and finishing third in the points with all these great riders in the class is a big accomplishment for our team.”
