JD Beach Finishes A Close Second Aboard His Y.E.S./Monster Energy/Graves/Yamaha R6

On a busy Saturday of qualifying and racing in the AMA Pro GoPro Daytona SportBike class, the Yamaha Extended Service/Monster Energy/Graves/Yamaha team had a good news/bad news outcome at Barber Motorsports.

First, the good news. After qualifying seventh on the grid earlier in the day, JD Beach, rider of the #6 Yamaha YZF-R6, finished second to Yamalube/Westby Racing’s Dane Westby in DSB Race 1, which is JD’s best result yet since joining the team at the beginning of the 2014 season. It was also Dane’s first win aboard his #00 Yamaha R6.

After the race, JD said, “It seems like Dane and I keep finding each other out there. Dane’s a great rider, and we had a really good battle. It was great to be out front. It was a really hot race, but an exciting one, and I’m happy with the result.”

JD’s teammate Garrett Gerloff got his weekend off to a great start in qualifying, as he put his #8 R6 on the front row of the grid. Garrett was also in the lead in DSB Race 1 when the race was red-flagged. After restarting from the pole, Garrett and RoadRace Factory/Yamaha rider Jake Gagne both went down, and Garrett unfortunately suffered a hairline fracture of his left radius (wrist).

“I’m upset that my day, and weekend, ended early, especially when I was up front and had a chance for the win. I’m also upset that I injured myself and can’t race tomorrow, but I’m determined to get back on the bike as soon as I can.”
