Double win for Holcombe, disappointment for Bolter

Crescent KTM Enduro racer Steve Holcombe scored a fantastic double win in the Under-23 class during rounds four and five of the British Sprint Enduro Championship at Llangrove in Wales last weekend.

Holcombe coped well with the hot and sunny conditions on day one and produced a perfect performance to win the Under 23's with over a two-minute lead from his nearest challenger Jack Rowland. Holcombe’s lap times were all under the projected eight-minute mark, on a circuit that included fast straights around crop fields, a motocross track, a stream crossing, gullies and woodland areas. Holcombe was so dominant on day-one that he was the only under-23 to record a sub eight- minute lap.

With the track reversed the following day for round five, Holcombe continued with his dominance and had another perfect start, causing quite a stir when he posted the fastest overall time on lap-one and second quickest on lap-two. He went on to win the Under-23 class with a three-minute margin, ahead of runner-up James Dent, with an end-of-day final time good enough for fifth in the Elite class.

Team-mate Daryl Bolter had a first day to forget, after a crash on the third test left him needing hospital treatment. He was comfortably within the top-four until he clipped a rock on test three and went down hard on to a cobbled road. The damage he did to his shoulder and elbow meant a trip to Accident and Emergency in Monmouth and an early finish to his weekend.

The next round of the British Sprint Enduro Championship for the Crescent KTM Enduro team will be at Westwood, near Sheffield on Sunday 4th August, where Holcombe will be looking to continue with his impressive form and Bolter will be hoping to be back to fitness.

Steve Holcombe:

"I had an unbelievable weekend of riding at rounds four and five of the British Sprint. Conditions were dry and dusty, but I managed to crack on and get the job done. Round four left me a two minute cushion going into round five, which started amazing as I put in the fastest time outright on the first test and held onto first place until the fourth test. A couple of errors and fatigue made me take it steadier in the afternoon, but I still managed a comfortable win in the Under-23 class to take the overall win. The Crescent KTM worked brilliantly all weekend and I can’t wait to get out racing again and continue where I left off. I want to wish Daryl all the best and I hope he’s fit and back on the bike soon."

Daryl Bolter:

“I’m very disappointed with what happened at the weekend. The first test on Saturday was ok and I improved in the next one. I found a good rhythm in the third test and had moved up into the top-four and felt that I was going really well, but then I clipped a rock and crashed. I went down hard and had to go to hospital to have it checked. It looks like I might have chipped a bone in my elbow, but that’s not a major thing, it’s my collarbone that needs further inspection. I need to have another examination to make sure that a plate I’ve got in there isn’t bent and that I haven’t done any other damage. Hopefully it will all be ok and I’ll be fully fit and able to race again very soon.”
