Top weekend for KTM's Eero Remes in Serres Greece

KTM Enduro Factory rider Eero Remes of Finland put in a solid weekend in Serres Greece for Rounds 11 and 12 of the E1 World Championship, finishing on top of the podium on Saturday and in second place on Sunday on a track that was long and dusty and strength sapping in temperatures in the 40 degrees Celsius.

Teammate Johnny Aubert was also twice on the podium, third on Saturday and second on Sunday. Team boss Fabio Farioli said that the French rider did very well considering he still sometimes suffers from tiredness, the result of a mid season virus that took him out of several races.

Remes said after Saturday's race in the northern Greek venue that he felt the heat and made some small mistakes in the final lap. "I just tried to apply myself to keep up my speed in the last round to win this victory." He said he had to take some risks in the river crossings but it had worked well for him and he intended to continue fighting hard for the remaining races. Remes was as good as his word with a strong ride and a close second place on Sunday and says he still believes he has the chance to take the world title. Eero is just 22 points behind championship leader Antoine Meo of France while Aubert trails him by 11 points. With four rounds to go and another 100 points up for grabs it is these three riders who are in the box seat for the title.

KTM rider Lorenzo Santolino of Spain continues to do well in the EJ class finishing in first place on Saturday and despite a crash in the Enduro test, third on Sunday. He is fighting for the title with France's Jeremy Joly who currently has a 21-point lead over Lorenzo before riders go to the next two rounds in Turkey. Meanwhile Mario Roman of Spain, who rides for the KTM Farioli Team in the Junior category was also classified as best rider on both days in the separately ranked Junior Cup.
