Strong line up Confirmed for Manx Two Day Trial

The Manx Two Day Trial, organised by the Isle of Man Centre of the ACU, is widely recognised as one of the best trials events in Europe. Now in its 55th year, it takes place over the weekend of the 28th and 29th August at a number of spectacular off road locations on the Isle of Man, as part of the Manx Grand Prix Festival.

The event features two solo classes, Clubman for amateur riders and National for the best riders and a Sidecar class. The Trial attracts riders of all abilities, from full time professionals riding in the World Championship and leading British Championship contenders to people who only ride occasionally for fun through the year.

This year’s event has a full entry of 275 solo and 31 sidecars. There are 63 solo Newcomers to the event with 5 in the National Class and 58 in the Clubman class. With an eye on the future it is great to see 42 solo riders in the under 21 category of the event - 3 competing in the contest the national class and 39 the Clubman.

The solos will cover a 53 mile tour of the South of the Isle of Man on Saturday 28th, involving 46 sections, before heading for the North and 51 miles across 36 observed sections on Sunday 29th.

Five former winners are returning in 2010 to compete including defending champion Sam Haslam who made his debut in 2009 and 2000 winner Dan Thorpe who will be looking to add to his tally of 100 National Status Trial wins in his career. World Championship contender Michael Brown, making his debut on the Island, will also be among the favourites.

The riders are competing for the prestigious trophy of an exact replica of the Manx Sword of State.

In the sidecar class 14 times winner Robin Luscombe, will line up with son Sam, to battle with 7 times winners Robin and Gill Morewood. Gill is one of 7 female sidecar passengers while there are also 5 female competitors in the Solo Clubman class.

The sidecars will be tacking a mammoth 99 sections over the weekend, providing a real test for the crews, in what many consider to be the best three-wheel event of the year.

The Manx Two Day Trial is now part of the rebranded Manx Grand Prix festival organised by the Isle of Man Government’s Department of Economic Development that also includes the Manx Grand Prix, the Classic Trial and the festival of Jurby and mountain course parade organised by the Isle of Man branch of the Vintage Motorcycle Club.
