A new event in the Middle East in 20112010-05-22 08:59The FIM (Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme) is pleased to confirm that with the support of M. Nasser bin Khalifa Al-Attiyah, QMMF President and Sheikh Abdullah bin Issa Al-Khalifa, President of the 'Bahrain Motor Federation, and Board member of the Bahrain circuit, a new six hours race within the Qtel FIM Endurance World Championship should be included in the calendar as from 2011. This second event in the Middle East should take place at the Bahrain Circuit (Kingdom of Bahrain), the week before the closing race of the 2011 Qtel FIM Endurance World Championship in Doha (Qatar). An international preparation race should be organized in Bahrain after the final round of the 2010 Qtel FIM Endurance World Championship to allow the permanent teams to familiarise themselves with this new circuit. Nasser bin Khalifa Al-Attiyah, President of QMMF, stated: "As President of the Federation of Qatar (QMMF), I am very happy to contribute to the expansion of the Qtel FIM Endurance World Championship in the Middle East. I would like to thank Sheikh Abdullah bin Issa Al-Khalifa, President of the 'Bahrain Motor Federation, and Board member of the Bahrain circuit for his support and accommodation of an Endurance motorcycle race in Bahrain. " Vito Ippolito, FIM President, added on his side: "After some weeks working with M. Nasser bin Khalifa Al- Attiyah and Sheikh Isa bin Abdullah Al Khalifa and Claude Danis, President of the FIM Road Racing Commission, we have managed to finalise this project of organising an Endurance motorcycle race on the prestigious Bahrain Circuit. The initial test should be held just after the Doha event and should allow us to make the necessary adjustments and checks to make sure that the 2011 race will take place in the best conditions. For logistical reasons, the two races of the Middle East should be organised back to back but the final round of the 2011 championship will be held in Doha, Qatar. This good news makes us optimistic for the development of motorcycling in the Middle East and is part of the FIM project to extend its championships to new countries.
