KTM's Max Nagl a superb second in British MX1 GP

KTM's Max Nagl put in a strong performance in the British MX1 GP on Sunday, winning the second moto to secure second place on the podium at Mallory Park for the Red Bull KTM Factory Racing Team.

It was Max's first moto victory in the current season and concludes a successful weekend after he said on Saturday that it was his goal to be on the podium on Sunday. Nagl was impressive in both motos but admitted he had pushed a bit too hard in the first race and a crash terminated his comfortable lead.

Renewed confidence for Max Nagl
"I pushed very hard in the first heat and I put a lot of pressure on myself. It was quite difficult to catch up after the crash because it's hard to overtake on this track. But after winning the second race I realise I could have easily won both of them," he said. "I have lacked a little confidence until now but Stefan Everts (factory team manager) has done a great job with me and I understand the problem is in my head." Max said he was still taking some pain killers for his hand injury but that too was improving. Now he is looking forward to next weeks races in France. "Hopefully I can keep going the same way as today," he concluded.

The German rider also drew praise from his team boss, himself a former multi world champion. "Max was so close to winning the double today," Everts said. "Maybe he can do it in France. I know he has the ability to be much higher in the standings."

Crash ends Barragan's hopes on Sunday
The second KTM factory rider Jonathan Barragan of Team Silver Action was not so fortunate. After an impressive ride to third place in the first moto on the challenging, hard pack and rocky course where the ruts deepened as the race progressed, Barragan crashed in the second moto. In the process, he bent the clutch lever on his bike and had to retire. His overall tenth finish and his 20 points leave him in third place in the standings but the race for the title is still wide open.
