The 2025 MotoGP season officially kicked off for Jack Miller and Miguel Oliveira as they made their highly anticipated debut with Prima Pramac Yamaha MotoGP at the Sepang International Circuit. It was a crucial first day of testing for both riders, marking their first official laps aboard the Yamaha YZR-M1 2025.

A day of discovery and adaptation, Miller and Oliveira focused on understanding the characteristics of their new machines rather than immediate performance gains. Despite this, both riders showed strong early pace, setting the fastest times of the morning session before shifting their focus to gathering crucial data.

As the day progressed, the duo continued refining their riding styles and initial setups, ultimately finishing 8th (Miller) and 10th (Oliveira) on the timesheets. The opening day ended with Fabio Quartararo of Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP leading the standings aboard the same-spec M1. With two more days of testing ahead, Miller and Oliveira will now focus on fine-tuning the YZR-M1 setup and gaining further confidence in their new Yamaha package.

Action resumes tomorrow for the second day of Sepang‘s official winter test.

"Day by day I am getting more comfortable on the bike, that transition period when you are trying to make the bike yours is what is really important and in the afternoon I really started to feel at home on the M1. I feel comfortable on the bike, the set-up is there and so we were able to work during the day, test some things and try to move forward. I am enjoying my time, I am having a lot of fun.

The Yamaha allows you to do something different than maybe other bikes I have ridden in the past, in terms of corner speed and so on. Once you feel the confidence that the bike gives you, of course your riding style changes, but fortunately for me I still feel that I can ride with the typical Jack Miller style in terms of how I enter the corner and braking hard, being able to slide the bike to help stop it. That was my biggest question mark and now that I can do that without compromising the strengths of the M1 I am happy.”

“It has been a solid day, and we end it feeling satisfied with the work we‘ve done and even more eager to keep working together to strengthen this relationship we‘ve just begun. I‘m adapting to the bike, part of the team is as well, and at the same time we‘re getting to know each other both personally and professionally.

There‘s a great atmosphere in the garage —everyone is eager to give their best to keep improving. Ending the day with these feelings only increases the excitement for the next day. We know we can do more, and I‘m the first to admit that I still have to unlock the full potential of the bike, but I know the potential is there. We can feel it, and these first laps are making us even more motivated.”
