Adam Norrodin will start tomorrow’s Grand Prix of Japan from 31st place after heavy rain at the Twin Ring Motegi gave him his first experience of wet conditions on the PETRONAS Sprinta Racing Moto2 machine today.
Norrodin set a lap time of 2min 7.613secs around the 4.8km circuit, in what is his fourth weekend with the team as stand-in for the injured Khairul Idham Pawi. Today’s conditions proved to be a challenge yet the 21-year-old was able to make a significant step forward between FP3 and Q1 on the Triumph-powered Kalex.
With dry conditions forecast for tomorrow, Norrodin will be able to return to Friday’s set-up with the goal to improve on his performance last time out at the Thailand GP.
The 2019 Moto2 World Championship continues at the Grand Prix of Japan tomorrow with the 22-lap race starting at 1320 local time (1220 Malaysian time).

“Moto2 is completely different from Moto3 in wet conditions, and I still haven’t figured out how to get the best from the bike when it’s raining. I was trying to use the style and body position I used in the smaller class, but it doesn’t work very well on the bigger bike. Conditions were bad in qualifying and I was expecting to be much better than I was, but in the end I wasn’t able to push to the limit. The race looks like it’s going to be dry, which is a big positive given how good our feeling was yesterday.”
