Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki’s Savatgy Goes for Three In A Row at Thunder Valley

Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki’s Joey Savatgy started a streak in 2017 when he won at Thunder Valley Raceway for the second year in a row. In 2018, he looks to keep the streak alive as he continues to find speed and make improvements early in the Pro Motocross season. Rookie Garrett Marchbanks is set to continue his move toward a top-five finish, coming off a season-best result last weekend of eighth overall. Austin Forkner, who nearly had an overall podium in Colorado last year, hopes to put his Kawasaki KX250F on the podium for the first time this season.
Last year, the third round was really where Savatgy found his stride and he brings in the confidence to Colorado knowing he’s bested the competition the past two years. With factors like elevation coming into play at Thunder Valley, Savatgy has proven he knows how to cope with the different conditions.
“We are really looking forward to putting ourselves in competition for the lead and it’s even more exciting knowing we are headed to Colorado,” said Savatgy. “I’ve had some good runs there the past few years and the goal is to try and make it happen again.”
The newest member of the team will look to his teammates to offer helpful tips for the hilly and elevated track. Marchbanks has already shown improvements and an attitude committed to making the most of his rookie season. With two top-10 finishes in the books, the goal will be to remain consistent in Colorado.
“The team has been awesome to work with so far and I’m trying to stay focused on being consistent,” said Marchbanks. “With so many talented riders out there, it can sometimes be easy to make mistakes. I would love to break into the top five for at least one moto and continue to go after good starts.”
Forkner has had a tough start to the season, seeing him have both great races and ones he’d like to forget. Last year, Forkner just missed out on the overall podium at Thunder Valley and is ready to turn his season around as the series makes its first move east out of California.
“I am happy that we have the first two races under our belt and that we can start heading east where we’ve done well in the past,” said Forkner. “I was so close to getting on the podium last year and it would be a great way to go into our first break with a strong finish to build on as we start clicking off rounds.”
The Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki riders will be signing autographs at Sun Enterprises on Friday, June 1 from 6-7 p.m. in Denver.
Saturday’s race from Thunder Valley Raceway will be broadcast on MAVTV and NBC Sports starting at 2 p.m. ET.
