Andrea Migno and Albert Arenas begin French GP weekend well and lay the foundations for Sunday's race
The French Grand Prix got underway on Friday at Le Mans with great competitiveness amongst the Moto3 field. Just 9 tenths separated the Top 20 riders on day one. Niccolò Antonelli, with a time of 1:42.596, topped the timesheets from Kaito Toba, who was second and only 48 thousandths of a second behind. Behind them, Enea Bastianini, Tony Arbolino and Marco Bezzecchi completed the Top 5. Arón Canet, who was sixth, will start from the back of the grid in the race due to a penalty, regardless of his qualifying position on Saturday.
The Angel Nieto Team enjoyed a solid start to the French round, with their two riders working to find the best setup for the race on Sunday. Andrea Migno started the day well, with a third position that he was unfortunately unable to repeat in the afternoon session. The Italian crashed when he lost the front of his bike, but was unhurt. He was, however, only been able to lower his best time by three tenths. Teammate Albert Arenas dedicated the first day at Le Mans to completing more than thirty laps, focusing on finding a good pace for the race.
10th Andrea Migno 1:43.213 (29 laps): "On this first day at Le Mans we enjoyed a good first session, in which we finished third, and a second session in which I crashed -fortunately without suffering any injuries. After that, we found things a little more difficult. We are trying to understand our weak points in order to continue working and looking for the ideal setup for the bike."
20th Albert Arenas 1:43.489 (33 laps): "We have started at Le Mans with a good feeling and with a different approach to finding our pace. We've been putting in many laps and not been looking at the times. I think I could still improve by some tenths on my hot lap, but the good thing is that I know where I can do that. We are working hard and I am ambitious -I want to be up at the front- but I am sure that if we continue in this way, we will get there."
