cfta Western Flat Track Rd. 3 Newman Hills Ferry + Rules Clarification

. By Bikeland Staff

Pros Running in Other Classes:
Here's what the AMA rulebook states: "AFT-licensed riders are eligible to compete in amateur competition and are eligible for cash awards (purse) from the event, but not eligible for points. Pros are not eligible to race in any amateur class except the expert class."

CFTA encourages pros to enter other classes. Pros are not eligible for purse money or points in those classes however. It's all about fun. Let's get some more vintage metal ridden by our finest fasties.

Open Classes are Now Singles Classes:
In the past years we ran open amateur, expert and pro classes. This year we are changing those classes from "open" to "singles" classes. Why the change now? Because in the past, a rider would not have had an advantage in riding a twin on any of the race tracks we ran. However, this year, we are running several longer tracks where a twin would potentially have an unfair advantage over a single.

We highly encourage riders to bring out their twins. We have a "Run What Ya Brung" class that's designed to be whatever we say it is. If X riders want to form a class we'll run it. That goes for twins too.

Open Singles Payout:
Due to popular demand, we have changed our payout in this class to the top three riders, $250, $150 and $100, respectively. Previously, it was the top five positions. A reminder that you must have your name displayed on your riding gear to be eligible.

Safety - A Few Changes Now...More to Follow

Fines:
We will begin levying fines for safety violations, effective immediately. At our last event at Prairie City, two riders entered a hot track and then proceeded to exit the track at the track entrance. Several riders were seen speeding through the pits. In the future, we will fine riders for such blatant safety infractions. It seems as though certain people choose to repeatedly ignore safety rules. Fine proceeds will go to the Flat Track Safety Group to fund safety improvements.

Helmets:
We will begin thorough helmet safety inspections at Newman Hills Ferry. If you want do a self-check, download the guide attached in this email. Please bring your helmet to tech. We are developing a sticker so that the complete inspection will only be required once or twice a year.

Fire Extinguisher:
The AMA (rightly) requires a minimum two pound BC-rated fire extinguisher in every pit space. We will start enforcing this at Sacramento.
