Team Babbitt’s/Monster Energy/AMSOIL Kawasaki Presented by AP Designs rider Gavin Faith raced to an overall podium at Round 4 of the 2017 AMSOIL Arenacross Race to the Ricky Carmichael Cup, increasing his points lead.
As the first 250AX Class Main Event got underway, Faith would exit Turn 1 in second place with teammates Gared Steinke in sixth and Travis Sewell in 16th. Throughout the 15-lap Main Event, Faith would trade fastest laps with the leader but couldn’t seem to get within striking distance. In the final laps of the race Faith gave a final push, closing the gap to the leader but was not able to make a pass. Faith crossed the line in second place with Steinke and Sewell in seventh and 12th respectively.
In the second Main Event, Faith rounded the first turn in third with Sewell sixth and Steinke seventh. Faith quickly made his way into second place and set his sights on the leader again. With three laps remaining, Steinke made a mistake and was relegated to 11th place, where he would remain until the checkers, earning eighth place overall (7-11). Faith continued to push throughout the main but was not able to make the pass, eventually going 2-2 for second place overall. Faith’s podium increased his championship points lead, which now sits at eight markers. Sewell’s 12-6 result earned a ninth place overall.
“We are leaving Sacramento with an increased points lead,” said Faith. “I always want to fight for the win, but we’re here for the championship so this is a good result. I’ll go home and put the work in so we can head to the next round ready to fight for the win.”
“Today was up and down,” said Steinke. “In the first moto I was in a decent position, the second race didn’t go my way. I made a mistake late in the main and it cost me. It’s time to go home and do some homework to make sure I don’t repeat these mistakes.”
“I struggled in the first main event,” said Sewell. “I didn’t get the start or the result I know I’m capable of. We made a few changes in between motos and when the gate dropped for the second main it was a different game, I had a solid start and rode a smart race.”
