Honorary Cheesehead Hayes Wins His 8th Road America Superbike Race Out Of 12; Monster Energy/Graves/Yamaha Teammate Beaubier Finishes Second
. By Bikeland Staff
After a tipover, followed by a mad dash through the field and all the way up to sixth place in MotoAmerica Superbike Race 1 at Road America, four-time and defending AMA Superbike Champion Josh Hayes left no doubt in Superbike Race 2 as he dominated the race from start to finish to notch the 52nd Superbike victory of his career.
Josh’s Monster Energy/Graves/Yamaha teammate Cameron Beaubier followed up his win from Superbike Race 1 with a strong second-place finish in Superbike Race 2, which was his eight podium in eight races so far this season He currently leads the 2015 MotoAmerica Superbike Championship by 26 points over Josh in second place.
Starting from the pole, Josh got the holeshot in the race and ran consistently fast laps without putting a wheel wrong to take the dominant win. It was clear that, after the tipover he suffered in Race 1, he was out to make a statement…and he did. Josh is the master of Road America, and an honorary cheesehead due to the eight Superbike wins that he’s had in the past six years.
“It’s always good to bounce back,†Josh said. “To be able to repay my team for all the hard work they put in is the best part of getting this win. My bike ran so well. It was a lot of fun to ride all weekend, even in the rain and cold.â€
Cameron commented, “Josh was ripping. I did all I could to run his pace in Race 2, but he really goes well around here. I’m happy that I got the win in Race 1, and as for finishing second in Race 2, I’ve got to be thankful to get out of here with good points and leading the Superbike Championship by more than I did when we came in here.â€
