Fly Racing ATV Supercross Series Ready for its Debut at the “World Center of Racing”
. By Bikeland Staff
For the first time in history, Daytona International Speedway will host the Fly Racing ATV Supercross National Championship Series on Tuesday.
With approximately 400 entries, ATV riders will battle for a coveted Daytona trophy on the Ricky Carmichael Signature Design course located in the tri-oval, the same track that has been used in the recent Daytona Supercross By Honda and the Ricky Carmichael Amateur Supercross.
The track layout is similar to Saturday’s Daytona Supercross By Honda with some of obstacles and turns altered to accommodate the unique riding style of a 400-pound ATV.
All eyes will be on ATVMX Champion and Wienen Motorsports Yamaha rider Chad Wienen, who has competed in the series since 2012. He is the second ATVMX rider to ever win three consecutive titles.
“This is an amazing opportunity. This place is the holy grail of racing,” Wienen said. “I can only describe this as prestigious. It’s never been done before in the ATV world.”
The Ricky Carmichael Signature Design is legendary for its demanding nature and is considered to be a hybrid of a motocross and Supercross track. ATVMX has never competed in a Supercross stadium-like setting.
“This place is huge and it’s almost intimidating coming on the track as you enter through the tunnel,” Wienen said. “I train on obstacles like this all the time because it’s fun to me and challenging. I’m really excited about it.”
The ATV Supercross event at Daytona will have heat races, last chance qualifying races and a main event in each class.
Following the ATV Supercross, Daytona International Speedway will feature the AMA Pro Flat Track doubleheader on Thursday and Friday and the 74th Daytona 200 on Saturday.
