The World Enduro Canada/Wiesner Insurance Cross Country was hosted by Gopher Dunes, near Courtland, Ontario. Frank and the Schuster family has always been a huge supporter of motocross in Ontario and on a national scale, known for having one of the most challenging sand tracks in North America, and arguably the world, they’ve now opened their arms to the offroad/enduro community.
Brian “Wojo” Wojnarowski was in attendance, but so were many others. The Yamaha/Machine Racing rider would have his work cut out for him if he wanted to win against motocross racer turned off road rider Josh Long and Nathan Bles, a local motocross rider who achieved some notoriety in the 2011 CMRC MX2 class.
Wojo was second off the start, missing the hole shot and falling back to fourth by the time the class had made a loop of the motocross track. He tried to gain time back in the woods, and slowly worked his way into 3rd, having gone as far back as 5th.
Try as he might, Wojo was unable to get his bike in front of the #12 of Josh Long or Bles, and ended up finishing 3rd.
“It was really awesome to see these guys come out,” said Wojo after the race. “It could have gone better, but these things happen.”
Never the less, Wojo was named the WEC/Wiesner Insurance Cross Country Spring Pro Champion. “They (Sean Wiesner, Trevor Wideman and Stephen Abel) have put so much effort into this series, and into securing sponsors and trying to get more riders out. It’s an honour to win, it really is.”
Eyes and plans are starting to turn to the eastern rounds of the Canadian Enduro Championships, with Labelle only two weeks away.
