Red Bull KTM rider Mika Kallio and other 250 cc riders were deprived of a chance to race on the Indianapolis Racing Speedway when bad weather forced cancellation on Sunday
Both the 125 cc and the MotoGP race were cut short as soon as the riders had completed enough laps to legitimise the result. the 250 cc race, which had been put back to the third race on the schedule was then scrapped as rain and wind lashed the tradition-rich circuit.

"Cancelling the 250 cc race was a difficult decision to take, and of course, we were affected more than our competitors because it meant one less race for Mika to catch up in the world championship standings. But nevertheless, it was the right decision in the interest of rider safety. Both the other races were cut short because of the appalling conditions, and the weather forecast issued warnings for even stronger winds later on. The risks would definitely have been too big!"
Riders in the category had an event filled weekend. Friday was a foretaste of the bad weather conditions, Saturday was a brief respite but then Sunday proved to be too dangerous to hold the race after superstructures started blowing over and gusty wind raised the danger levels. The storm was remnants of Hurricane Ike, which has wreaked havoc in the USA in recent days. They now have to wait for the next race at Motegi, Japan on September 27, 2008.
