Yeah I got word Cades Cove is closed. I'll be up in Maryville in a few weeks rockin' the C14. Taking these stock tires off and putting sticky Michelins on first.

Rumor around here is that the Gap will open up on April 12 from 8am to 8pm. You can only enter the Gap from the NC side.
Go to DealsGap.com for the latest updates.

A popular route known as Dragon's Tail has reopened to motorcycles and cars, allowing enthusiasts to get their fill of ‘twisties’.

The eleven mile stretch of road which boasts 318 curves attracts bikers and sport car enthusiasts from across the country and around the world, running from North Carolina to Tennessee. It was unexpectedly closed on March 14th by a rock slide leaving local authorities scrambling to find qualified contractors to clear the road and local business owners worried about their livelihood.

While the news that most of the route will be opened from 8 am to 8 pm daily is good news for some, businesses located on the Tennessee side of U.S. Route 129 will still be blocked. Those business owners are concerned their North Carolina counterparts will take advantage of the situation and ‘corner the tourism market’ according to one vendor.

Where Tennessee businesses would see thousands of riders, the rock slide has limited the traffic to one or two

And currentlt the weather is perfect for the would-be enthusiasts to pit their driving skills against the 318 curves and winding road, known throughout the riding community as Deals Gap, or the Dragon’s Tail. While the crowds may start to enjoy the ride on the north end of the route, the Tennessee side will have to wait until the stabilization and cleanup is completed in July at an estimated cost of 2 million dollars.

According to officials, Vancouver, British Columbia-based Pacific Blasting has been promised a $195,000 incentive to finish the project by July 1.

According to reports, traffic will be able to enter from the North Carolina side near Robbinsville and turn back about two miles from the rock slide, just short of the Foothills Parkway that many enthusiasts follow to accommodations in Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge.

While riding on the mostly North Carolina roads motorcycle enthusiasts heading to the Dragons Tail should expect to see Tennessee state troopers who are enforcing traffic laws while the road is open to the public.

Same thing here, state cops {CHP} are out to raise revenue and motorcyclists are prime targets.

I did the snake already this year too Dean.

here's the end of the line at Tail of the Dragon as of this weekend. Once can run the whole dragon but where we turn around and come back up - we now HAVE to turn around and come back up!
