Seems there is a rock overhang on the Tennessee side which is in danger of falling. They TN state authority has barricaded the road just past the Deals Gap resort on the TN side of the border. Tennessee officials have refused assistance from North Carolina to provide policing and medical assistance (if required), thereby blockading the road. There was talk that the resort was going to be closed, but they are doing there best to keep the resort and hotel open. Right now as I type this, your vacation plans to stay at the resort may remain, but your plans to ride The Dragon are cancelled. There is a contract being tendered to remove the overhang, but it has not yet been awarded and there is no timeline on how long it will take to complete.
I guess I will take my fun money some place else this season.
