It took a low-side induced concussion, midol from princess kiwi, a few beers from ddpete, a hypnotic bonfire on fox hill at laguna seca, and observations of middle-of-the-road man to come up with that change.....mysterious, but true!
HEY swft one...I haven't been here much lately but will pop in when I am able....we need a montage gallery down memory lane of all the folks who have come and gone and come again...and gone...then occassionally come back again...lol

This spring will be moving into my 2390 square foot ranch house on 165 acres...1000' driveway from the road...much privacy.

Yes, I've been spending my time knowing the unknowable.
Tell me about your '84. I bought an '85 for my daughter which she has riddien into the ground and which is now on my rack getting a jet kit, cam chain, clutch, cush-drive, etc. She rides too good for my own good.

Haha! That's great to hear! Reminds me of Don Blair's daughters, both who ride. I still miss him, God bless.
After owning my GPz 750 for a couple years, I had heard/read about the Ninja coming out, and when it arrived at the dealership in Charleston, SC, I put the money down for it. That first year, they had really silly promotions going on, such as the red long johns with "Ninja' on them. I think there was a line about 'needing a second pair' as well... What did I love about the first Ninja as compared to my GPz?
POWWWERRR!!!
Quicker handling as well. The GPz was sooo stable. On our weekend blitzes on secondary highways in the low country, we would be in tight formation running at about 130 or so...a fast pace for the time. And the GPz was just completely unflappable at speed. The only bike I've had since that felt as well planted was a certain ZZR1200. But enough about the GPz. I did crave more power, as well as something a bit less work in the twisties, not that there were a lot in SC. The Ninja was new, it was exciting, and looked so much more like a sportbike compared to something like a Yamaha XS11.

+1 Sweet post....
I loved my '85 Ninja 900. BIG jump from my '82 GPZ 550.
Changed my world and perspective. That's back when I was reading the UFO articles in Sport Rider. There was some guy in those articles named Doug .

Oh so it 's your original one! Very cool! I had the first 900 in California. They were released first in the Midwest region and I had mine shipped to me in Monterey in the crate from a dealer buddy in Chicago. I sold it when I bought my dealership in '85 and got an '86 1000 on which I set the 1000 MP record at Bonneville that year. I actually have the original tank for it with a small dent in it in the box that brought me the replacement. I just LOVE those bikes. That Greystone and Firecracker Red is really pretty.
AND, I still have my Ninja Red Long Johns.
I ride that certain ZZR a LOT.

Thanks! What I really want to add is a black/red 1988 ZX-10 Which I think might be the best looking Kawasaki ever.
The engine in the Z-1 is the 1080 out of my 169mph 1976 Bonneville bike, except with 29's instead of the 36mm four cable Amal's. Oh, and a "Koikuh" exh 'stead of the original straight tailpipe Yoshimura. Wish I could find one of those.

Doug - I sold an '89 last year that I picked up in Florida. We need to stay in touch more often! How about a stock, litterly crate new condition (1240 miles) '07 model? Oh, and I want that '73. I sold a completely restored pristine '73 back in the late 80's that I still to this day regret.... Sold my '75 John Player Norton at the same time and cry every time I think about it....
