Auf Wiedersehen to the Liter Bike King? BMW Halts Sales of S1000RR -Massive Recall Pending?
The Internet was ablaze this weekend with rumors that BMW had halted the sale of its horsepower King, the S1000RR. With no official word from BMW, speculation for the reasoning of the halt sale has fueled discussion based on comments made in various forums by BMW dealer employees and customers that the recall not only includes the 2012 model, but possibly previous incarnations of the machine as well.
Though some focus is on mechanical issues like those that dealt a deadly blow to Kawasaki's 2011 ZX-10R release, there have also been suggestions that BMW has finally been pinched in the decade plus long "gentleman's agreement" that left Kawasaki's 2000 ZX-12R as the last remaining "unrestricted Superbike" for sale to the general public.

The BMW's have been plagued with quality control issues and recalls since day one it seems. I think they're an awesome bike, but where's the top shelf quality the name BMW is supposed to represent? I'd love to own one eventually but they scare me a little with all the issues.
Having a ton of hp and breaking the 300kph gentlemans agreed limit are 2 different things. Have they broken some emmissions laws somewhere? I don't think its a crime to produce a butt-load of power lol.

They do off shore parts for some of their models, including the entire engine for the 650GS. I personally saw the assembly line China ... Maybe that's the issue?

BMW is a global manufacturer of cars and motorcycles and they make junk in the USA, Europe, China, Africa, etc like most companies their size.
However they don't manufacture as much in China as GM does, nor do they manufacturer in Mexico like Ford does (F-150 trucks).
Location of a companies manufacturing facilities doesn't determine QA measures or build quality for any of these companies.

About damn time! We raced an S1000 in AMA Pro in 2010 and had nothing but problems and no support from the factory (dealer support was fantastic, but limited by the factory). Overheated brake rotors caused several mid-corner front wheel lockups, stretched cam chains/faulty cam chain tensioners caused the cam timing to jump all over the place, the transmission shed gear tooth material like crazy, and the traction control would change modes on its own. We ended up fixing it up and selling it off before the end of the season after it hospitalized its rider for the third time.

So you would recommend the BMW, with minor reservations?

I haven't really followed the S1000RR. Is that the typical story on the bike's reliability, or lack thereof? I hadn't heard many complaints amongst the street guys. Not that I ran into many...

Bikeland guys get around! I wish I could afford to travel outside the U. S. ....Not to Mexico! been there!
I bet it made your head tingle looking at the inside of the factory! That was very cool!

Hey, these are not rumors, they were seen on the internet, they are the gospel. There is no way they could be on the internet if they were not true.

Word from the bmw gurus says it's defective rod bolts as follows, but it's still just the internet so take it or not as true..................

We've already had to pull plans to race the '12 and are back to the damn '10 this weekend. Grrrr.
Oh, and as for being sorted out of the box? Please. The factory adjustments have stock ones handling floppier than a first gen SV in front, and similarly harsh out back. Worst suspension, for the price point, that I've ever seen.
