And BMW took a long over due WSB double in the 1st race and got 1st place in the 2nd race, that is pretty good for a bike that has been recalled because of busted rod bolts.

Come on...you know Factory Race bikes are torn apart after every race. I am not taking anything away from what BMW did winning 2 in a row. It cost them a lot of money to do it. I would be super pissed if I was making payments on a new bike only to find out several months later some guy at a Dealer is going to completely take my new bike apart and glue a rod bolt and nut. Oh yes I trust this bike now..... uh I want a New one from BMW that has the correct bolts etc. My guess is a bolt and nut vendor had a bad batch of them get out and BMW was unlucky.

No way they'd trust dealerships to check rods bolts, would they? I wouldn't want those half tards opening up my engine!

amen, i was actually starting to get the ball rolling on buying a 2012 & my nearest dealer says they cannot sell any until the con rod bolts have been replaced, i said the same thing, no way would i want one of these, i'd never trust the work.

Yep but there's a BIG diff between the problems a leaking valve cover gasket can cause, and bad camshafts and rod bolts
4 washers installed by me and my leak was fixed
Lets see you do that on the beemer
Plus 2 years of boost on my stock motor and running perfect. I'd be afraid to run a bone stock 12 beemer hard.....
Peace of mind is everything

The last corner of that second race was a real heart breaker.

Boy this whole batch of posts are very interesting. My Buddy has a 2011 S1, and He never heard anything about this so far. I know with His, He sure will not want His bike to ever go back to the dealer, and its not very surprising for any product to be recalled.

Hey another valid point is the 3yr warranty.... Im looking into buying the 2012 ZX14R, and it really sucks that I have to purchase warranty at all. 3yrs should be standard for sure, and even more so since theses modern bikes make so much power, and going to increase the need for repairs.

Man...I was in love with the S 1000RR after an hour long test drive about a month ago.
I did the same on a new old stock 2011 ZX-10 last Saturday. There are a LOT of things to like about the Kawi over the Bimmer. Many of them subjective, but bike to bike, the BMW does not feel much different:

- till you are at track RPM's for sustatined periods of time, then there is a burst of power and shows the 20 HP advantage but on the street forget it.
-Felt overall the 10 handled as good and actually better than the S1000
-Throttle control and responsiveness was smoother on the 10
-For me better overall street manners in terms of suspension.
-Better ergo's. Not sure why but the zx10 is a bit more comfy.
-0 vibes on the 10...fair amount through footpegs with the S1000.

Still love the BMW though. I'm an owner of the K 1600GT and not a BMW hater by any means. Just find the Kawi ZX-10 feels better to me.

Good question, some of us on the open hiway like to do 2nd roll on's at 60 MPH and shift a few gears.
It takes "Some" of the rider out of the test and smaller risk of flipping the bike over. I have never owned either one. I am just Too tall 6' 3" and getting older.... for all days on either one now.

The ZX10 feels torquier to me below 6K but's it honestly hard to ride either bike that way.

I'm not a BMW hater by any means......the 1000rr is a stupid fast, great handling electronic marvel. Basically an awesome machine. I just wouldn't want to own one because of the quality control issues. But that will get corrected
