And I would have been impressed with his 8 if the wheelie bars would not have been there. but when I see bars on a bike if it don't run 7's it is not very impressive to me. i mean any local track you go to there are 8 sec no bar street bikes. take the bars and slick off and run an 8 then it will be impressive in my book. but I don't no much anyway, hell I ride a triumph runs 12's

Understand what you are saying , the problem I have being an old fart like I am is when trying to explain to some young guy the diffrences between motorcycles , it's like comparing apples to oranges it just does not work . Like I said earlier any inline 4 will rev faster then a v-4 its just a fact .So why compare a 680lbs bike to a 500 lbs aerodynamic bullit , you can't .

i've got 16k on my bike in 2 years while managing to do 14 months in deployments . I've only had the chance to make 250 or so passes at the dragstrip though . The gen1 max is one of my all time favorite bikes. I used to own one. I will say this. There's nothing that sounds better than a hot V-4 with a header on it.

I don't think anyone of the racers here are overly impressed with a 200 hp, cut to shreds bike that goes 8.87....with a slick and bar. I believe it was Cornell himself who claimed that his bike was 550 lbs at one point. If so, the performance is just not that great.
It has nothing to do with it not being a 14. It has to do with it being a disappointment at the dragstrip. 67" bike averaging 1.5 60 foots...with jockeys? That's pretty bad. If the Vmax guys didn't talk it up like it was the king, call it "THE BEAST" and make ridiculous performance claims...well, the bike wouldn't get bashed here like it does.

It is the norm to see a street bike running 8s, a vmax in the 8s. What ever he had to do to get there is beside the point. How many other vmaxs have made it to that level? The only difference now is that he can't claim to be all stock.

I guess it all depends on how much money you plan on spending. Most people aren't going to be impressed spending 2 to 3 times as much money/time to get one bike down to another stock bikes numbers. Not to mention it makes that bike impractical to use other than dragracing. (Which i'm not saying is a bad thing because mine spends about 90% of it's time on the strip).

quote: Thats ok , I have my 6 bikes I will continue to enjoy . I knew coming on this site after that 24 yr. old kid said how good it was it would be a mistake , I'll just go back to a real riders board where we actually put miles on our bikes instead of talking trash on everyone and everything just because I don't own a ZX 14. This is just like a bunch of Harley Assholes . And yes I own 2 V-max's ,a Busa , Blackbird , ZX-11 and soon to be finished Z-1R Turbo. now let the shit slinging begin.
Maxnos stick around , bikeland is a great site and most of us are older guys and have owned just about every bike made ..Maxnos
what you don't understand is you think you are just posting in the Vmax zone when in fact this post is also in the zx14 zone .. I started this post in the zx14 zone and one of our Mods mirrored it in the Vmax zone ... This post was meant only for the zx14 guys to give an update on the Vmax ... I have tested the new Vmax on the track and street and while it's a cool bike it will never be a zx14 ...If it was i would have one allready .. Stick around and look over the complete site , there are zones for just about any bike made ... This is not just a zx14 site ..

It's really to bad they missed the mark with the new Vmax .. They just made it to heavy and too costy ... Yam rep told me they sold 1600 on them last year and hope to sell 1000 this year ..They were not happy with the sales numbers at all ... Looks like to me 2010 will be the last year of the new Vmax , at least here in the states .
I still think is a cool bike and I'll keep looking for a crashed one to fix up or find someone that going to dump one cheap ..

On my 85 V-max I had the Chain drive conversion kit from Mad Max enterprises. Best thing you could do to it. I had the stage 7 with the four K&N filtters, KerKer 4 into 1 with the 2.5 comp. baffle. It was 4" over on the swingarm. It would run high 9's in the 1/4 back then. They had one with a turbo that ran 8.48 quarter mile at 164.44 m.p.h. at Rockingham Dragway on August 13, 1995. They sold a supercharger for it and I always wanted one. I got real good at V-max transmission changeing. I must have broken second gear 4 times. It was a real tire burner on the road. Bawls it sounded like a hot rod chevy with a mild cam. it was a great bike.
