EPIC rides! Sometimes its about the people.

I thought some of my friends here might like this post:

Rolling back in time 16 years ago, I had sin with a woman that would never be a good mother,
We had a boy and would not have allowed me to raise him in a healthy lifestyle, without her presence.

He was given up in an open adoption.
We ( MOSTLY ME) chose the parents.
Next to the loss of my father, it was the most difficult thing I have ever had to deal with in my life.

Well, I got to see him this week!
We had a great time, and he has grown to be a very nice young man.

For those that do not know, I have a few bikes, in the garage.

I taught him how to ride a dirt bike, then loaded up the little Suzuki DRZ125L, and my KTM XC505 and headed off to the badlands of Drumheller.
I wish I had pics, but forgot the camera at home.

The next days we modded the Vmax, and took it for a burn out to the Rockies.

Me and my boy:

For a complete rookie, he was an excellent hand in the garage.
We installed UFO exhaust, stainless brake lines, drag bars, zx14 master calipers, Pazzo levers, bar end mirrors, Vboost module, customized Rizoma's, shorty turn signals, radiance tail light, and freshly painted bodywork on the Vmax.
The factory faux carbon fiber had to go.

He was a natural!
This is only 1 hr after his initial introduction to motorcycles, and have never driven a standard in his life before.
Must be the 4 generations of motorcycling genes!

BTW, the DRZ125L 4 stroke is an awesome tool for teaching beginners.
Its my daughters bike.

My daughter, and son!

The Vmax is an awesome bike for doubling, especially once you lose the boat anchor exhaust. The steering geometry doesn't change with a passenger and the bike is a very stable comfortable platform.
Having a backrest is great for both of us, as we could ride the Vmax as it was designed to be ridden, but in tandem without worry of losing the passenger
I picked up my 1st gen 2002 Vmax last fall for $4000, and threw a couple more bones at it.

He loved the acceleration of the bike!

We rode to Banff, and took the Gondola to the top of Sulfur Mountain.

Downtown in Banff

Then we took the Parkway Highway from Banff to Lake Louise
Its a nice little windy side road, away from most of the traffic, with epic scenery.
Even the Vmax and a passenger could almost double the posted limits with ease, including the corners.

Castle Mountain:

Lake Louise:

The Vmax is a great platform to spend with a passenger.

I bought the bike after taking my daughter for a ride on my old neighbors Road King.
She loved the backrest, and ergonomics.

I am so happy with the bike, since it brings the familly together, that it will get a few more mods this winter, like 17" wheel conversion, and updated inverted forks with radial brakes.

Thought I would share a different side of my life with you all.

Well, the visit is over, and I got a few more boxes of parts for the 14 in the last week, so back to the garage, and time to get the zx14 Turbo finnished up.

Take care of your kids, and give them all the tools to survive in life.

Cheers,
Lyle

Thanks,
Ya, that jacket fits me better than any other brand I have tried, except it is a little loose around the waist. I should probably get it taken in.

I figured Steve would like travel travel pics.
The Rockies are a beautiful place for sure. I feel so lucky to live near the mountains!
The fresh air, and the smell of the forrest is unreal.

I just quit smoking 2 months ago, and the sense of smell and taste are coming back. LOL

Cool, good for you guys. Good luck on the quitting smoking too. I have been tabbaco free for 6 years and don't miss it a bit.

You were right about steve liking the travel pics, I liked them and the story so much I had to revisit this thread again. Man great stuff right there!

I've rasied my kids already and miss the days. One is in college and an E911 operator (out on her own at 22), other in the air force.

Hope you get to spend more time with that kid. I bet he was heaven, I wouldve been had I been in his shoes!

More scenery pics from 7,000 ft:
The valley floor is about 2000ft.
The tallest peaks are approx 10,000 ft

Looking to the North up the Icefield Highway towards Lake Louise:

West end of Castle Mountain:

Banff from above, can see the golf course in the background.
I told him it would be a fine place to ride the dirtbikes LOL
Golf courses were meant to be motocross tracks after all!

I am a proud father, and exstatic about the whole experience!
Its my pleasure to share!
Even though I haven't raised him, he has many of the same character traits.
The adoptive parents can not beleive the similarities in personality, even though I had no influence!
They are awesome people.

I am glad everyone is happy for me, and only hope it makes others more enthusiastic to share the fine sport with their children and familly!

Wow!! #1. I've been to Banf and Lake Louise 3 times in the 80's and early 90's. Lotsa White Water Rafting when we were there!

#2. That is soo freakin' aweome that your boy had a great experience with you.... I was given up for adoption when I was 2 months old and finally found my birth mother and my 2 half sisters about 12 years ago... I needed to find out some info on myself... not too pleasant an experience... couldn't get past the fact that the bitch kept the girls but gave me up... Never was able to locate the birth father and of course she had nothing but bad things to say about him.... I'd like to meet him one day because I was also informed that I've got 3 half brothers running around here in NY.

#3. My adoptive parents were a freakin' horror show... My brother said boot camp in the marines was like a vacation compared to our upbringing by these 2 slave drivers! I was actually working since I was 7 years old and worked at their store, free of charge till I was 19 years old... I was very bitter and left home at 19 which made life even harder but I survived!

What you did for your boy was magic, and he'll always treasure this experience... Not all re-unions end up as good as yours!

Thanks Hendrix.
Impossible as it may have seemed to me initially, I have grown to appreciate my situation even more so.

I am keeping my fingers crossed.
I might get him next week again.

They live on the other side of the continent, so vivits won't be very simple.
