let's see at 174 rwhp and 111 torque (bone stock on my dyno)
no way will it out run a new busa or 14 (unless the rider is an idiot)
too much weight for the torque.
I thought I was pushing a car up the dyno ramp

From a thread on hayabusa.org:

"This months edition of MotorCyclist has an interesting article about
the B-king Vs Vmax Heavyweight showdown...

I say interesting cause the B-king won every single catagory
It won at the dragstrip
It won on the curves
It won on fuel economy (said the V-max can empty it's 4 gal
gas tank of premium unleaded in 100 miles)
It won on ergonomics
It won on the price battle
It won in the daily commute
etc..."

I thinking if it can't stay with the B-King, it ain't got a PRAYER against the 14 ......................

I just love these BIG hp numbers posted .lol ..Funny everybody elses dynos read much lower ( 167 to 174 hp ) I'll trust the cheesemans numbers anyday over your numbers ..
Doesn't make much difference anyway .... 701 pounds kills it from running any good numbers .... So it's a 18k dyno queen that does good burnouts ..

where is all the weight wasted??

I can't believe Yamaha did not see this coming......

they know what power to ratio means...I suppose they figure hype and power numbers were enough to sell....they must figure the average street guy to be stupid .....but then performance results don't lie....

at least 100 lbs lighter would do some justice....in all areas ....handling - braking - acceleration....fun...

I would fire the chief engineer in charge of the new V-MAX........then keep the engine and redesign for real world performance.....with a bigger gas tank....

"street performance" has to sell better than a bogus image that does not deliver....

I would never buy one....not as is....then 18k??

I can't believe that someone would actually say that a zx14 has better bottom end than a Vmax. I have had both and will tell you the vmax you drove was either broken or your spraying on your zx. There is no comparison. I'm not going to get in a pissing match but I have either had or still have both. The stcok Zx-14 has moped acceleration untill 5 grand then after that it's fast as hell. I have the utmost respect for you ZX guys and I know a lot of you people race all the time but let's be real.

With the exception of the first 15 feet after you launch, when are you ever going to be below 5,000tpm? As for the street, if the vmax tries to beat up on anything from a slow roll, it's going to result in tire smoke due to it's 66" wheelbase. As soon as I catch one out on the street it's game fucking over.

I'll give the fact that a vmax on a dyno will show a bit more TQ down low that a zx14 ..BUT the 175 pounds difference between a zx14 and a Vmax the zx14 wins hands down ... I rode a 09 Vmax and i can tell you first hand the bike doesn't pull as hard down low as my 06 or 09 zx14 ... When the Vmax hits 6 grand it goes flat as a pancake to 9 grand .... The vmax makes peak tq at 6500 and the zx14 makes it at 7500 rpms ... Also the Vmax is geared much lower than the zx14 but the zx14 still kills it from a roll at any gear or speed .. Fact is the Vmax is all smoke and mirrors..

I second that motion. We have the southern corners of the us covered... surely there's someone in the northeast that can make it to atco to see this "beast" of a vmax in action.

It's funny how everyone compares the Vmax to the sport bike class of bikes when in reality it's a cruiser thats flattering thanks for the compliment. Also If yamaha my insurance company and probably every magazine article that I have read say it's a cruiser guess what it's a cruiser. I know it won't beat a zx or busa or probably any liter bike on the highway. One thing is for sure though I can guarentee you it will run a 9's quarter mile with the right right rider stock. The bike is so new it's barley even been tested in the 1/4 mile and has already run a 10.13 @138 1/4 time. I have seen worse times on a lot of sportbikes. There are so many variables and riders all with different skill levels. For a cruiser it flat out hauls a$$. I don't wan't to here that it has a v-4 so it's not a cruiser due to the fact a honda valk had an opposed 6 cylinder and similar seating and it is a cruiser not a standard.

The first generation V-Max is almost as quick as the new max. Yamaha gave the new bike more power, then gave it more weight as well to make it nothing more than a heavier, more expensive version of the original. Note to yamaha, more power and LESS weight make for a quicker bike lmao

HEY DOZER have you done any mods yet?? the guys are making 195 hp and 125tq just removing the CAT box and installing the X PIPE and are still running the stock exhaust just removing the stock restrictive air cleaner will give you 182 hp and 118 tq the MAX comes very resricted for Insurance purposes but can be derestricted by installing the RACE ECU from YAMAHA

My bike is completely stock for now. Im waiting for the aftermarket researchers to thoroughly complete their R&D and then make a decision from that point. I don't like making several costly changes. Do it once and do it right. Im sure there will be several aftermarket ECU's coming out that will do more than derestrict the limiters and achieve greater gains. Also Dynojet is said to be releasing their power commander for the bike in 3 weeks. As for removing the stock air cleaner thats a no no and just begging for problems. I'll wait for a high flow filter upgrade. I don't want sand and debris inside my motor. The X pipe looks and performs great and retains the clean stock exhaust appearance which I like and creates a distictive growl without being obnoxious. The stock mufflers are said to flow very well. I for one think 200RWHP is achievale with simple bolt on's and without going into the motor. At that point we will see the true streetable potential of the bike is. None of this strapping and lowering that kill handling and ground clearance often done to sport bikes. As I myself want a heat seaking land missle of a cruiser.

mark, you should be ashamed of yourself for not having the testicular fortitude that it takes to ride your 14. let's see... your max wouldn't outrun a 109, now your 14 won't outrun the new max. i'm seeing a pattern here. Like i've said before... don't even bother using the computer. your time would be better spent learning to ride.

Dale Walker did that 10.13 at Sac ( 69 feet above sea level ) and Dale walker is one hell of a rider as well as a tunner ... Pee Wee gleason could only get a 10.23 out of the bike ... And don't feed me the crap they post on Starvmax about Dale could not hook the bike ..Dales words were " I had no problem hooking the bike " He also said with good good air and a light weight rider it might break in to the 9s MAYBE ...10.13 is weak for a bike that is 69 inches long with a claimed HP of 174 ...Put a zx14 at 62 inches with a good light weight rider and see what happens , never mind WE allready know what it will do ..

Don't take me wrong here , i think the Vmax is a cool bike and i truly loved my 85 Vmax .. But the 09 Vmax is out gunned in the 1/8 mile 1/4 mile , top end and handling by every sport bike out there ..

Smokin you should research the bike a little bit better and reread your mags. At no time did Pee Wee ride the new Vmax for a 10.23 time also the bike is 66.9 inches not 69 inches long. http://www.starmotorcycles.com/star/products/modelspecs/23/0/specs.aspx heres the link read it and remember it. I know that me being only 5'8 and 275 lbs I won't be Doing any 10s so I Don't care. IM not a big fat slob Im a musclehead who's been lifting weights for 26 years and am ass wide as I am tall. Not very aerodynamic plus heavy bike plus lousy riding skills = slow time LOL
