will it be lighter than the big 4?
don't know but my first guess would be no, lol. they only had a half page on it but promised a full report next month after they test it. they did say it had a pipe on each side,a swingarm mounted tag bracket, and was more street than drag. they also said that one of my favorite bands of all time, Alice in Chains performed at it's un-veiling in L.A.

at only 122 ponies I figure for it to perform on the race track it should at least have a weight advantage. The new ZX10 and Blade are lighter than many factory 600's.

I own a 93 stock v-max that I have never been beat on, and I have ordered an 09. Another bike for you youngsters to check out. 1979 Yamaha XS-11 Special. The only bike in the world to have vacuum advance. Also, fastest production bike in the world for it's time. Another cruiser?
The bottom line on the v-max is this. It was designed with the old school mucle car mentality. If you had ever driven an old hot rod with a vacfuum secondary carb you would understand the v-boost and the mentality behind the V-max.

Anyone ever get to DragRace the v-rod???
I did and the forward pegs were not made to help you DragRace!!!
11.50 in the 1/4 mile on a v-rod is not acceptable to me!!!

Living in your own little world, are you?
You're trying to convince me that no manufacturer has come out with anything faster in the last 15 years? Blackbird, Hayabusa, ZX-12R, GSX-R1000, ZX-10R, R1, ZX-14, and on and on..........
The sad truth is that any of the latest 600's will run off and hide from you.

not to mention the ZX11 would also leave a V-Max for dead.
"Power in 1997 V-Max was 113.5bhp@9000rpm, with torque of 83.1ft/lb's @6000rpm. Wet weight was 631lb's."
"the ZX-11 -at 126.6- is the most powerful street bike Cycle has ever tested. This is a motorcycle that will spin the rear tire as easily at 80 mph as it does at 30. You want to talk top speed? No stock street bike has ever broken the 170-mph barrier, yet the ZX-11 recorded 175 mph on our speedgun. Forget about basking in the communal warmth of motorcycling. This is a bike for kicking ass."

Yep the new 600's will spank a first gen V-max BAD. But they'll pretty much spank anything that was made in the mid 90's or earlier I've watched them spank about everything old school you could name at the drags lol. And roll ons are even worse Technology can be a bitch sometimes.....

Well, I have to put my 2 bits in. My son had '07 600r. We raced from a stand still, and from 4th gear roll ons, my '85 900 Ninja walked away each time. (I'm also about 15 pounds heavier than my son... beer belly).
So then we met up with my nephews R6, same thing. Keep in mind though, all bikes were bone stock at the time. My wife's 650r, with my son on it, doesn't stand a chance. BTW, my 'little 900' did beat the V-Max when they were both introduced in 1984.
Never did it in the drags, just lonely old country roads.
I still have much respect for the Max, and I doubt those 600's stand a chance against a clean running V-Max. Just my experience and my opinion of course...

Another bike for you youngsters ???? You have no clue do you ... My 85 Vmax was a great bike for the day but in todays world it's a TURD .....The new Vmax at close to 700 pounds and only 190 at the crank is going to be a fast bike BUT doesn't stand a chance to a new zx10, Gixxer, zx14 or Busa ...Pay your 18,000 and meet me at the track and i'll show you ..

This isnt meant as an insult..............................but i've ridden all of the bikes you mention except the R6 any wins would come down to rider, seriously though the the old 1985 Ninja 900 and VMAX were fun bikes but they would get crushed by ANY current 1000's, ZX 14 or BUSA...............and any decent rider on a current 600 should win as well..............if you are beating any of these current bikes your racing shitty riders...............again thats not an insult, just a fact!
