KHI did the best that they could...
... but the demand for the '08 250R was more then they had expected. With many dealers trying to order additional 250Rs on what seemed to be a daily basis, it eventually got to that point where "all good things must come to an end".
And so it was with the '08 250R. KMC shipped every one of their 250Rs and still, many dealers were left with a portion of those last minute orders unfilled. This was also the case for Pastor Elk's new "commuter" bike. With Area P exhaust, Dynojet jet kit, Gafler brake lines, service manual, Pit Bull stands, Fieldsheer jacket and a whole list of other little goodies all in hand... the pastor doesn't have a bike to put them on ("use with" or whatever).
After contacting five different dealers over six weeks ago, getting on waiting lists and even putting a $200 deposit down at one dealer, it looks like it will be at least another month (or two... or three) before I get a shot at an '09. This is the price I pay for saying the only color I'm interested in is green. Now it turns out that there is a possibility that green won't even be offered on the '09 model (source: rumor mill).
Dealers who supposedly had part of their '08 orders canceled will possibly get a (that means "one") "pre-release" '09 model. It could arrive on their floors before the Dealer Show this Sept., but no promised were made as to when this one bike would arrive. What color (red, blue or black) this one bike will be is solely up to KMC.
Looking at the big picture of it all, it ain't that big of a deal. I waited for my '00 12R and my '04 10R (not as long), so I guess it's only fitting that I wait for my 250R as well. I will be disappointed if they do drop green for '09, but if they do, maybe I'll find someone willing to swap green plastic for black. Who knows? I might even like the black.

What a great "problem" for a manufacture to have Pastor. The more of them I have in here, the more I want one. Might have to not return one to KMC....

I've actually been thinking of one for a commuter bike. I was originally gonna go with a Honda NightHawk 250 until I realized the Ninja was a better buy. I hear for 09 they will have fuel injection. I guess this is good cause Kaw poured some money into revamping the 250 and I'm glad they are reaping the benefits of doing so as I feel it was there best revamp of 08. They really did a god job on making a budget bike look high end (are u listening Honda). It's funny cause I'm in the process of buying a 08 Dodge Viper which is also a revamp. Dealers wanted WAY above SRP and I held out only to get WAY below SRP (people can't afford 100k car that gets 10mpg in this economy) but I have a feeling the Ninja 250n will be a different story. I hope this will encourage the other manufacturers to develop bikes like this. Kaw just needs to put dual discs on this Ninja and I'll be club racing it!!!

The 250 has always been a great bike and sold well. The '08 model is just over the top awesome!

...would dual disc be too much brake for this little club rocket?

Lanceromance, one of the local dealers got their first '09 and it didn't have FI. From what I understand from my dealer, it's basically unchanged from the '08 model.
worm~hole, just as an uneducated (and unexperienced) guess, I don't really think it would work without doing something to keep the forks from bottoming out with that kind of stopping power. I know that the forks on the 250R aren't like the earlier EX models, but I still would believe that dual discs would overwhelm the new model's stock forks.
I'm hoping to find out soon what the forks can handle if I can score my dealer's one pre-release '09 250R that should be coming in any day now. I'm a good ways down on their list, but also a long time and loyal customer (read: me and the two race teams I've managed have bought a bunch of bikes and accessories). We'll see how that plays out.
If I do score the bike, I've already got Gafler s/s lines for it and plan on putting my OEM master cylinder off of my '04 10R on it. When I had it and a s/s line on my daughter's '04 EX250, it would completely bottom out that bike's spindly little forks under just "semi-hard" braking.
Hopefully, it won't be too much for the 250R since I really don't want to shell out for springs or fork work (at least not right away) on what's supposed to be my "commuter" bike. I've already spent too much on stuff for a bike I don't even have yet.

I'm going to get one for my wife. I tried to buy one a few months ago for me but they are hard to get. I'm hoping in the next few months as the weather turns cooler not so many people will be buying them.
