C14 9.92 et 1/4 mile at Valdosta
My Chris Jones turbocharged '08 C14 hooked up very well w/Continental Roadsmart rear tire (w/out even airing down the tire), rear shock revalved by BMC Racetech, lowered front/rear and front strapped on a well prepped track. Maybe it hooked too well, making 215 first stage hp under 7 psi boost and 239 second stage hp under 11 psi boost. Chris says he limited the power because even now it is too much for the chassis/short wheelbase and flies the front wheel on launch. It's OK after first gear but launching, the pro rider, John Fernandez, had to roll on the throttle to control the front wheel from flying, which slowed the 60' times. Tried kicking in the second stage after first gear and the best et was 9.924 at 144.40 mph.
Rickey Gadson, on his Chis Jones built/turbocharged ZX14R, won 2012 Real Street Manufacturers Cup Series World Championship, beating out previously unbeaten for his last 30 races, "Johnny Turbo" Dobrin, until Rickey whipped him and Dobrin's 'Busa in the last 3 races at Indy, Rockingham and Valdosta. Gadson/Jones and the Kawasaki ZX14R have proven to be the new force in Real Street drag racing. I was there in the Gadson/Jones Pit area to see/experience it all at Valdosta. It was interesting to see these pros strategize and cook their brains to come up with every last way to get an extra hundredth of a mile per hour to win. Lew

This is the good old USA and, thankfully, I don't need your permission to do as I please.

Well I am impressed !!!
And Mark.......On an earlier post you call Lew your hero now he's stupid, you're gonna have to make up your mind.
Congratulations Lew on building a super cool, non-cookie-cutter bike. I've been looking at the Connies for a while and was thinking on just adding ZX14 throttle bodies, pipe & PC.
Now you really have me thinking.
Well done,
Dan

Zx12mark, somethings are better left unsaid. I honestly admire Lew for his drive and the persistant need for speed at the young age of 70 plus. He could be somewhere kicked back fishing or golfing like most 70 plus year old men that have sucumb to a life of bordem. That is not his case by no means. Lews bike is without a doubt one unique piece. That bike is just as smooth as a stock bike until it reaches load around 4.5-5k rpm. Then you are greeted with a rush of acceleration like no other Concours has ever seen. BTW, before the haters thow me under the bus, I did not get rich off that job by no means. That job was a challenge to say the least to keep everything hidden and clean on the bike. Alot of R&D went into the Concours to ensure smooth and dependable operation. No different than the Busa' , zx14r, or gsxr turbo builds that I do for street use. It was an honor to work with Mr. Lew Waterman on his project. It took me alot longer to finish the job due to some serious health issues that I was handed this year. However, I was still able to finish a few cool projects such as Lews Concours, Rickey Gadsons ZX14R, Several Turbo Busas, and taking claim of the 2012 Manufacturers Cup Series Championship in the Real-Street Class. Sincerely, Chris Jones.

Kudos to Chris Jones for his hard work during this long and difficult project. The bike is not as fast as he thought it would be but I don't think there is a Connie anywhere faster than mine. And, I am sure it will go faster as we understand better how to control the power, even add more power and achieve better launches. Lew

Lew; Any updates on the Turbo Concours? I have been following this for a while, and was wondering how the bike is doing now? Are you riding it much? Post up some current details. Thanks. Mike.

I haven't been riding much. Old age health issues. Just put a new battery in today and hope to ride tomorrow. Want to get to Bradenton Motorsports Park and get together with Lee (smokinzx14). One of the things that Chris Jones never did was to use Menthanol 50/50 mixed with water. I think the 2nd stage boost control should have been used/tuned with methanol/water/c16 and only for racing. It's only set up now to run with water injection. Still need to keep front wheel down on hard launches. Have removed more rear weight and installed the catalyst drag step seat to sit lower and forward without sliding back under max acceleration. I know the bike is capable of better et on the drag strip. Still want a top speed run as well tuned with water/methanol/c16. Lew

Mike: Sorry, health issues have kept me from getting to the drag strip. If I can't race it, I still want to see the bike get into the 8's in the 1/4 mile and do 200 mph top speed. Took the dual CF Muzzy's off and put the dual GP SS shorty slash-cuts back on. I'd like to find an affordable used steering stabilizer that will fit the C14. Also want a check valve to keep oil from loading up in the turbo, when the bike isn't ridden often. I don't think it hurts anything, but it's embarrassing the way it smokes temporarily on start-up. Mike, thanks for asking. I've ridden very little. Still plagued with health issues. I have removed more weight from the bike and installed the Catalyst seat with brace under it. I want to get the bike 300 miles north to Chris Jones' shop, so he can install a check valve to stop excessive exhaust smoke from turbo oil. Also want him to tweak the chassis for better launching without excessive wheelies. Then I want to take the bike up to Bradenton and meet up with Lee Pritchard to have him see what he can do with it in the 1/4 mile. I'm sure it can do better than last time. Lee now has a new c14 of his own as well as a zx14r and an impressive history of drag racing. Lew
