The first thing you should have done besides the cussin, was to take it apart and run tap water all over it (opened up, batt out) and dry it gently with a hair dryer. salt has a bit of conductivity to it....

Now that I have the benefit of a good nights sleep, I have to say, the fob is the answer to a question nobody ever asked. What would be wrong witha normal key? I am taking a cab back now that i have rinsed and dried the fob and have a new battery. I can only hope that it works. If it doesnt, I have a fob on standby at home, on standbye for overnighting via fedex. Well, it's time to see how stupid the design is....later.

Exactly. Just rinsing it out and then drying it should bring it back to life.
And to re-ask FBA's question ... Is it working now?

Good deal!!
I love the fob system. I have the same type of thing on my vette and just love not having to mess with keys just to start the bike or the car. When I drive my truck the keys are a pain in the ass.

Well you knew about how this bike worked when you got it, and this, if my memory serves me correctly, is NOT the first time you went fishin and had a problem.
Yes they should have at least made the fob water resistant. They do make waterproof containers you can put it in. I have a couple that I use on the boat for cigs and matches. It floats too, get one and fasten it to your body.
I still would take the fob system over anything, it is just so convienent not to have tu fumble around with keys, but then again if something went wrong like the steering locked up I would be pissed too.
DEAR KAWASAKI, IF YOUR LISTENING, MAKE THESE THINGS WATER RESISTANT TO 50FT OR SO, AND OR MAKE THEM BOYANT AS WELL!!!

I want to answer this one.
My problem is with keys is that when you get off the bike you have enough gear on to make fooling with keys a PIA. Sometimes pockets are hard to get to etc. Then if you put your keys in the helmet (which I seem to have made a habit out of) I have had to go back into a restaurant and retrieve my keys.
Second just fumbling with a key each time you go to get on the bike is a pain with gloves and the like.
To make sure the fob is water tight all one needs is a small ziplock type bag and then floats and is waterproof. Put it in you pocket and you never have to touch it. No fumbling with keys, no losing keys from taking them in and out of your pocket etc.
Not having to play the key game is easier than fooling with keys.

I was warming her up this morining and had to fill it with gas (I have a 20 gal. container of "real" gas). The second time I started it I got the "transponder battery low" indicator on the dash, first time ever. I did grab the spare and had no problem, but would have hated going on my ride to have it not start..., at least there was a warning... Got a new batt today for the other.

Makes no difference Rob. When the FOB battery goes low or dies, you only have to place the FOB against the switch and it will read the FOB through passive RFID...it was designed that way so as NOT to strand the rider when the FOB battery dies. The only difference betweem battery alive and dead is the range of the FOB. All the battery does is create an active RFID - thereby extending the usable range of the transponder within the FOB.
My Z06 works the same way, with a slot in the glovebox designed to read the FOB when placed in the slot, for the same reasons,

I never knew that, I guess I will try it when I take the batt out and see of it works, maybe I did not read the manual fully in this case.... I think they need to have a message on the screen, "YOU TRANSPONDER IS WET" LoL!

So there is actually no need for the battery, I wander if nabrxx could have tried holding it to the responer, and maybe it would have worked. I will try the no battery thing in it this weekend and see if actually works. If I remember right, looking at the fiche at ron ayers, you cannot just buy a fob, you have to buy 2 and the responder... I will check that again.
I was wrong you can buy a fob for $177 but it is a new part number, superceded...

I am pretty sure you can buy fobs without any responder. Just register the fobs. There is only room for six registered fobs and they cannot be erased once registered.

Ted,
you must have replied before my edit, yes you can just buy the fob. I have dealt with cars with encoded keys, and some of the processes are weird in order to register, especially when you get an after market key and lock set. Toyota has some real weird sequences, and for us we need both original keys as we do not have a brand specific scan tool, though we got a new one and I am learning tps (tire pressure sensor) reading and registering.
On the concours, and maybe many cars, the sensors turn off when not moving to conserve batt. life. So those who put a lot of miles on are at higher risk for tps sensor battery going dead. When I have to register them, you take a magnet and while holding a bluetooth handheld unit that talks to the scan tool remotely while hooked to the car, You tap the magnet at the valve stem base, then you hold the remote at the tire near the sensor and it will find it. I need to borrow it one day to see if it can recognize the concours serial id in stand alone mode.
Oh well, got some more "real gas" today and am taking connie out tomorrow, as my days of riding are coming to an end soon. I still am going to try the no battery in fob thing to see if it works, in my mind, I doubt it, maybe a real low battery, not not one totally dead, or missing.
I could be wrong of course, but I WILL try it.

No biggie. We are all learing so the next time things are easier.
The drill with this one is the dealer hooks up the computer to his pc and he can register another fob.
