Temp gauge

I just bought a 08 concours and was driving around today in 90 degree heat, my tempgauge was a bar above half way and when I would shut it off for a couple minutes the temp was all the way to the top...no warnings lights came on......is this normal?

That only happens after you shut off and turn on within a few minutes while the engine is hot, but goes away within seconds of the restart...normal and occurs on my ZX as well.
