Track Day Tire Pressure

Last month I took my Connie to a novice class at the track and had a great time. Many thought it was cool and that I should run it with the bags on. I learned a lot and was able to explore a lot more of the Connie’s ability. Although not the fastest in the turns only two people where able to pass me the whole day.

I want to go back next month. Since I won’t give up my 14 for a track bike, buying a 3rd bike is a long ways off. When I go back I just want to have fun, go fast and practice skills I learned. I am not looking for the fastest lap times or wearing the pegs off the bike.

Does anybody have any suggestions on tire pressures? I’m still running the stock tires and ran them at the recommended 42psi front and rear. The tires did show wear all the way to the ridge but they never did anything unexpected. The instructors had guys running 30 psi but on 350 and 400 pound bikes. This was about 6psi under factory from what I understand. Any advice from the better riders is appreciated.

PS: The suspension is in the stock position other then the rear being stiffened a round or two. Since I don’t know what suspension settings would be best for the track or cruising I don’t mess with them.

Thanks in advance, JD

Looks like he's running stock. note his statment in the third paragraph, first line .... "I’m still running the stock tires "

Interesting ...... as the stock tires have been reported a crap by others.

on a 500lb bike we ran 28/29 to 30 front/rear in colder weather and 32/33 34 in warmer weather. on our phat bikes i would try 38ish to 40 and look to see if you are blueing the tire. if you are rideing like it sounds it seems you will be ok at 42 though on a colder day i would go lower. too low and you can over heat the tire too high and it will not get warm enough to get as sticky as it can. do not go hot into turns for a couple of laps to let the tires warm up. if you get passed leave it. then when you are up to temp get them back. be safe it is a heavy bike to get tangled up in going off a turn.
