At least you can ride, I have not ridden since oct. and have not even seen the grass in the lawn since nov..... Depressing. Hopefully the weather will warm up soon and maybe just maybe I can ride in april.

The weather here has been cold and we have been getting some snow. But for the most part you can brave the cold. It looks like Tuesday for the new bike and Wednesday I have to go to Vegas, so hopefully I can ride the new one next weekend.

somuch for al gore global warming/ it has been about 7 to 10 deg average colder each month since fall. mine been parked till today since late november. was 57 today.

I see you are in Pa too, this HAS been a cold one! I live near the poconos on the north side of a mountain where the road probably has 5 tons of salt on it right now, that is why I say hopefully I can ride in Apr. It would take a good warm spell with lots of thundershowers to heal the road. There are 2 other members within 25 miles of me with concours as well, we should get all 4 together for a run!
As far as maple grove goes, been there once for the top fuel event in sept. I had starting line tickets. I think the first round was J. Force in his castrol funny car. I mean the burnouts were loud, but I was not ready for side by drag. I remember them staging then everyone I saw put their hands over their ears except me and my buddy. When the tree went green the force knocked me back in the bleacher and I almost fell through. You cannot even see straight! Got to be able to hear them 30 miles away easy!

oncourse ever go to epherta first sunday? you will like it. lots of bikes lots. sort of a show what you got. people from delaware maryland some from new jersey some times more or less from those states. i always say if they made it someone may blow the dust off and ride it.
we go to shmoken for a ride up 125 for lunch or supper in the summe. that should be getting closer twards you.

It's actually 2 hrs from me, I am in saylorsburg. I would need at least 4 stops to make it that far. Bad knees, they do not like to be bent for a long period of time. It all happened at dorney park my wife said we should go on this wooden rollercoaster in the last seat. The day after that I was messed up. My doctor told me I had arthritis which I thought was b/s, I mean both at the same time in the same exact way? I went through a lot of tests and they proved I do not have arthritis, however they never could find the problem, I think it's my spine causing it.
You are actually closer to me, than I am to ephreta.. Maybe we could meet somewheres else closer to me? Well think about it, I am sure I could get the other 2 guys to go too. 4 councours at once would be a great scene!
Ted, Let us know how you would comapre the '08 to '09, I think the '09 should still have the brake recall, and how you like the abs, k?

i do not believe in abs on a fun bike. but it has a purpose. i just do not want it. i dis like it on my truck.
how far are you from shamoken?

I feel the same way about ABS. But I ride this bike almost all year save the coldest months. And the roads are covered in crud, water, sand, snow, ice, deer, and all sorts of other things that can go wrong not to mention I ride more at night where the dew on the road can be dicey if a quick stop is needed.
But even after riding the first C14 for over 30k miles and never having an incident that needed the ABS, I think I may be able to ride more aggressively in not so nice conditions.

The bike is here, but they sent the wrong saddlebags (bike came from another dealer). But it is at least here.

I guess they were the wrong color? If you wanna trade black for silver I'll do it, would make a nice contrast either way. The bike, in it's crate, should have the matchng bags.
My dealer had an abs, when I was interested in this fine machine, but I didn't want to pay abs price. They ordered me a non abs, from a kawi warehouse, and I took delivery they day after they got it in, had 2 or 3 miles on it. I just did not want it sitting there. My bike has not sat even 1 hour at the dealer since. The funny thing was (well sort of) is that they did not sell the abs model they had, and clearanced it out near the end of the year for less than I paid for mine. My biggest thing since I started reasearching this bike back in sept. '08 wasn't so much that I wanted this thing, but whether to go the extra grand for the abs. That was all decided by me being able to take the grand and make her better, faster etc.
Next challenge will be the full area p system, I cannot wait for the results of what is supposed to begin tomorrow....
Can't your dealer let you take you old luggage and put it on the new one? At least untill you get the correct ones? Yeah 2 keys is a pain, but you will be on the road again!

No they were the right color. They were keyed wrong the bike with my bags is sitting on their floor and they can't get the bags off without my new key. So the dealer is going to go get the bags tomorrow. Until they come back I will be able to use the silver bags. No biggie.

Well I just picked up the new new Black ABS. Although I am using my old saddlebags.
Any difference? None that I can detect. It seems to vibrate in exactly the same spots my old one did. And the tire pressure monitors aren't working.

Weird, you would think that the '09's would have the replacement sensors in them, that sucks. I never had a problem with mine yet, knock on wood.

My sensors on the 08 were flawless. They ordered some more.
There are a couple of things different so far on the 09. There are no extra screws on the deflectors. Also the glove box seems to be stouter and it now held on with machine screws into a metal bracket.
And it must be magic the thing's evaporative emissions controls just disappeared.

Ted, what do you mean by evap controls just dissapeared? Either your old model was california or the addition of the o2 sensor eliminated the need for them...

Nevada, California and some other west coast bikes have an evaporitive emissions (venting the fuel tank through a charcoal canister). The o2 sensor is for a closed loop system to allow the computer to look at the exhaust and adjust accordingly. One has nothing to do with the other.
What I meant was the evap system that was on the bike when I picked it up, magically disappeared last evening.

I get it... I do know through the years as FI came into play a lot of the emmission related hardware dissapeared too (cars). More precice fuel metering meant you didn't need a lot of the extra b/s to run cleaner. Yes my 08, on a hot day and after you park it might just whine with fumes going right up in the air.
Maybe the new sensors for the tires are worse than the old ones, just something to ponder......
We will see...... I am getting the gttp soon, won't have to even worry about anything untill 2014!

Ted's evap "disappeared" on his old C-14, and he was telling me to "disappear" mine too!
I almost went for a ride today but the GTO needed it's special fuel mix today, so the bike sat.
A few weeks to go and hopefully warmer temps and cleaner roads...idiot govt keeps throwing dirt on the roads!

Well the dealer tore it down and the crank is not broken, I blew a main bearing, they said there was a defect with the oil pump. I think the reason I thought it wasn't charging is because the engine had seized and the starter couldn't turn it over.

Makes no sense to me, in the beginning, you were riding te bike when things went wrong. You took it to the dealer and even they started it (from previous posts), somthing does not add up, you never said the motor was locked up either.

Well what I did was limp it back to civilization and at a light it died. When I pushed the starter button, it wouldn't turn the motor. I just figured the battery was dead. But now thinking about it, the motor must have locked up. The confusing part is it didn't seem to be locking up when I was riding it back. It just seemed to do it when I stopped, because I couldn't keep it running.

Huh, I thought they started it at the shop? You said they charged it up and they thought it was a main bearing or a busted crank.
Did the oil light ever come on while it was running, did it spin the bearing? I would almost have to have said it was a rod bearing as they get oil last, at least typical plain bearing engines do.
