Ted, I'm glad you finally got it.
It's surprising that amazon didn't send you an email with the tracking info.. Or maybe they did and your spam filter ate it?

They did but get this, they sent it yesterday (5/12) at 5:15 and I checked my e-mail at 4:00ish and it arrived less than 24 hours later?? Who gives a shit, the thing was delivered and someone was home to get it. Now all I have to do is mount the thing. OK Amazon is off my shit list.

I just looked at the tracking information. The reason it took one day is because it originated from here. I am surprised they didn't sent it to Denver and back.

Well I had to go to UPS and get the thing but I have it now. Also Anazon's big warehouse is only 20 miles from my house. That is why the short shipping time.
So I can now get the thing mounted, Maybe Friday, I will do it the way FBA did it for now.

Ted, keep in mind, if the amazon price drops within 30 days of receipt, you can request a credit for the difference.

Well just my luck, I plugged in the unit to charge the battery, it came on for a couple of minutes, and now it seems the unit has died. Just nothing. The charger is working because I can charge my blackberry with it. Fuckin wonderful.

OK, I removed the battery let it sit for a few minutes, put it back together and nothing, I tried that several times. Then I removed the battery again and cleaned the contacts and it came to life!! I am letting the battery fully charge before I mess with it again.

Latest update. The thing shut down again and would not come back up under any circumstances until I removed the battery completely. So I called Garmin and a very knowledgeable lady helped me download new firmware. She said they have had some battery recognition problems. Well after the download the thing did take off and started working. But she sent me a new battery just in case. So it seems that maybe things are OK and I can go ahead and mount this thing. We will see.

Ted man, you have all the luck!
Since you're now a zumo owner, check out zumoforums.com for tips and helpful advice on how to use the thing.
The manual leaves alot to be desired (although better than the nuvi manuals)

I have been a member since I ordered the thing. And I read through some posts, and posted my issues. I was just scanning through some stuff.
Also the people at Garmin have just released new maps last week. And by registering the thing you get a free update. I am going to get the thing mounted and figure out how to get a dongle that transmits stereo bluetooth to run off the bikes battery power.

You correct about the new maps, and they're a worthwhile download...a lot of enhancements to the 2009 maps! Always keep your firmware updated to the latest version and use the web updater. Go to zumoforums.com for a lot of great info!

Well I tried to plug in the car adapter and the thing went black, And after a while I was able to turn it on after I unplugged it. Then I left it on for an hour and a half the thing showed low battery and that is the last time it worked with a battery in it. I am not so happy, But I do have a new battery coming tomorrow. Hopefully that will fix the thing. So far it has been a pain in the ass. I really don't want to have to send it back.

I got the new battery and it made no difference. But I did fix the thing.
1. Cleaned the unit and battery contacts with scotch bright.
2. Powered up the unit with the battery removed.
3. Installed the battery while the unit was running.
4. Did a reset ..Top left button and power at the same time.
The thing works just fine...
Next issue.
DO NOT ORDER FROM RAM MOUNTS DIRECTLY.
I just made that mistake and they just turn the order over to one of their distributors. This causes 2 problems, If you are in the same state as the distributor, you get hung with sales tax. And if the parts are back ordered you may not know about it for 3-4 days. In other words figure out who sells the stuff and order directly from them.
I am going to build a custom mount because I don't like that generic thing. So I needed some more parts.

Damn thing died again after I removed it from the car cradle and selected no to continue on battery power. Took 2 hours to come back to life.

I'd stop messing with it and have amazon send you a replacement unit.
Call 'em up instead of email. 800-201-7575. Request over night service. They may ask for a credit card to secure it with.

Absolutely not. We went through the motions of things that might have fixed it like updating the firmware and they sent me a new battery at no charge. But when it failed again they just got me a new one.

Also I got the thing mounted, I made my own bracket that catches the four rearward bolts and used a RAM screw in ball. Then I cut off the excess metal from the round mounting plate and made it rectangular and polished it all up. Came out awesome.
Using the thing is really nice, very motorcycle friendly and the wifey tested the phone bluetooth functionality, I have it connected to a J&M bluetooth helmet communicator. The thing worked great, I was able to carry on a conversation with no problem. What is nice I can see the caller, and actually dial out. The only thing I have not got to work (and it may not) is the voice direction through the bluetooth.
