Hello!
I just want to say hi to all of you here! I finally decided to join and hopefully contribute to this forum. I finally got my concours 14 after 6 months of drooling over it, considered a zx-14, but too much of a reach to the bars for me and would not help my back. Had to fit me!
Well last oct. I stopped by a dealer that had one in the window, they let me sit on it, hold it up and showed me how the luggage worked etc. Being only 5'8" 155#, I could reach the bars and sit almost upright, not quite all the way, but close. It had the power, it had the handling, it had the wife acceptance factor as well, seems like it can do it all....
I have had many bikes, this is most likely #21, and I was heck bent on deciding right, a bike I will keep. I think I have found it in the concours14.
I have been riding bikes since age 12, now at 41 (almost) the body just cannot take leaning over much, yeah it might be cool to have the world fastest bikes (zx-11 hayabusa etc..), been there done that, but for me it is about the "package", a bike that can deliver everything and not give up much, that is why I chose the concours14. With just the addition of the helibars I am sure I can sit straight up, and they are coming soon. Next thing coming is the exhaust slip on to get rid of that boat anchor, it is HUGE!!!!!!! Not only huge but ugly as well.
I only have 200 miles on her so far due to weather, but cannot wait to put some more on, the first 200 were really impressive. It isn't the fastest, but it's not slow. It isn't the lightest, but it feels like a sport bike when rolling at a good pace. It has luggage that is removable and looks good with or without it. It is just the best compromise for me.
The first thing I would tell anyone besides people with NBA style hands, push your lever forwards on the clutch and the front brake lever and turn those adjusters to the highest number possible. The clutch lever was waaaaayyyy far out and was hard to control as I was at the limits of my fingers lenght before it would engage, now it starts to grab right off the grip, NIGHT and DAY difference and inspired a lot more confidence as well.
As I said before, hopefully I can help here one way or another with ideas etc... Been a Auto tech for over 20 yrs, maybe that will help?

Thanx, I needed that! Last time I was on a bike posting scene was back in the hayabusa. org days....
Wish I had a pic of me with my dual pistols, .223 and 30-06 to counter that one!
Only here to help if I can and learn all the time :-)

Welcome, the thing will get much faster as it breaks in. Pretty big gains. As soon as you get rid of those Bridgestone tires and put on some Michelin PR2 the thing will even handle better.

I am sure it will, and those tires will definantly go on when needed, no doubt. I am totally amazed by how far you can actually lean this thing, I got scrapes on all but 1/4" of the stocker rear tire and I know there is more. Just a little skiddish at this point since I do not have access to a track, and the roads have little gravel in at spots here in pa. since the winter, do not want to dump my baby!
Thanks,
Rob

Tell me about it. There is gravel all over the place here. And because or it you really can't ride it hard leaned over. That being said I have actually worn out a tire in the center for the first time in my life. But I have ridden all but 2 months and have 17500 on the thing.

I know a lot of roads that are cleaned by weather pretty well, just not where I live, but close by. I don;t know how many times some young chick in a honda has tried to race me up my hill (mind you I live on top of a mountain), but I know that road well, and know where the crap is, yes I may slow down a lot in the sketchy sections, but give me a strightaway and I can catch up in seconds using little throttle.
If you are unsure of the road ahead of you, do not push it... Best bet is to go through it slow and survey it, then turn around and do it backwards. If there are a lot of blind curves be conservitive, you never know what you will find on the other side..
Thanks,
and keep it safe!

Ted is right, my bike has gotten a whole lot stronger with more time and miles. I have 10,880 and am amazed daily at the get up and go, so much so that my son on his 08' Busa has to hustle to keep up when we are zipping thru traffic and I am ready for some new tires as well. I had the recall work done on the bags and rack, they do close better now.

The connie must be one tight woman, I can't wait for more miles and get the flies situation straight and one day those michelins are going on! I absolutely love the gearing on this thing, geared higher than any bike I have ever owned even the 'busa. OD really drops the revs to the point I think the motor can last forever.
Thanks all,
Rob
